I use an Venor all in one diesel heater. This season was the first time I used it to heat an 8 man tent. I got a longer pipe for the heat output so I had a little distance from the tent to the unit. The exhaust pipe gets hot so I didn’t want it close to the tent. It got us roasting on a late...
After a number of years I got into an entry level spotter. I went with the Vortex Diamondback 85mm. I think you will find a common theme is if you buy a low end one you will outgrow it quickly. I got mine to see how much I would actually use it before spending a lot on a high dollar spotting...
I did a diy hit tent with a Sierra Designs Guide tarp. The stove is a custom build and not a packer but it’s been a great combo this far. The tipi style Guide Tarp was selling online for under $200 a while back. Got this thing hot in some cold Montana winters. It’s a 4 man and I’d say it’s a...
I use a Thermarest Z sleeping pad for western big game hunting. It’s got the versatility to be an elevated seat, only about 6 inches high which is good enough for my short legs. It also gives me the ability to unfold and make uneven ground a flat spot to sit. I have also used it to lay prone and...
I just moved from the original Kuiu to a Stone Glacier. I like how it folds open. The FHF flap to open and close didn’t do it for me and was the reason I went with the SG. I’d call it a minimalist bino harness and it gets the job done. I would like maybe a pocket or two more in the front for...
I used a very similar headlamp from Amazon this season. It was the “sofirn Headlamp, 1200 Lumen Rechargeable Headlamp Flashlight with Bright SST40 LED” on Amazon. I was very interested in the Peaks but did a bunch of research and found this option for ~$30. It did great in Montana from...
I set a timer for my watch at 1:00 min. Then when it goes off, I take a shot as part of my summer shooting practice. For me, it helps not seeing the clock and being able to count down with it. After a while you can adjust the timer for longer or shorter holds.
I keep it super minimalist and don’t take any pouches or slings. I like a small cup of flies with some tipper and a nippers and pliers. I was in the fishing world for a while and had a bunch of those items and they now all collect dust. If weight is not an issue that stiff is fine but I like a...
I use the Havalon Titan. Been very happy with it over the years. My buddy had one and the safety has had some locking issues. It’s does not “feel” like the highest quality knife but it has been great for me @ $65.
