I've killed animals with most of the bullet designs out there.
I have recently made the switch to heavy for caliber fragmenting type bullets and have observed more bang-flops than with monos or tougher bullets. My sample size is still relatively small and I'll continue to analyze performance...
I managed to make it through the whole thing, because I like to hear different opinions.
JVB came out at the beginning and said that this was going to be a "science based" discussion. Talked for a while about wind drift, sectional density, penetration, and shot angle. He then proceeded to...
I figured I'd give the JVB episode a listen in the name of objectivity. He starts the podcast by outright stating he has no wish to debate the subject with an opposing viewpoint. Pretty much lost me there.
Great rifles.
If you're close enough, the CMP stores will allow you to hand pick your rifle from the racks available. I'm not sure what inventory looks like these days, but they used to advise calling ahead to check.
Hard to beat an SBE. I have a newer model A5 that I love as well. I personally think the A5 points a little better of the two.
The Berettas are nice, but feel like swinging a 2x4 to me. Too chunky. That is coming from someone who shot a MAG10 for years...
My son took his first ever deer (doe) and first ever buck this year in the Texas Panhandle. Super proud of him. He made two excellent shots. He as worked hard all year in school and at the range.
I've owned a bunch of Leupolds over the years and killed many animals with them.
Like many here, I've read enough to become uneasy with their durability. Sure enough, my VX5 3-15 had the seals fail after a trip to the panhandle. To their credit, Leupold fixed it and and returned it within four...
250lb Mule Deer Buck - 140 ELD-M 6.5CM, ~100 yards, MV 2580 (Son's first buck)
Entered quartering to in the shoulder and exited behind far shoulder (pictured). Caliber sized entry, entry scapula jello'd, chunk of ribs missing. Golf ball sized exit. Small fragment exit further down the torso...
I'm in your shoes right now. I bought a 6.5cm as it seemed to be easiest. $75 rebate right now until the end of the month plus whatever I can get from selling the barrel and stock.
I actually just spoke with UM today about barrel options and costs. The other route I'm looking at is a PVA...
Awesome! That's exactly what they told me it'd weigh when I called the other day. I believe he said a 5 spiral flute would save another two ounces or so.
Hoping for a black friday sale to order mine. How long was your lead time?
I don't unfortunately.
I went back and looked through all the brass i've ever shot through this rifle and there are ejector and/or extractor marks on case heads from every single box (in some form or another). This includes several boxes of different lots of 147 ELDM, one box of 143 ELDX, and...
