    Ground hunting pressured whitetails

Coulda, woulda shoulda, if I could shot straight, paid better attention, and not do stupid stuff. I’ve had an opportunity almost every year on at least one legal buck in both archery and rifle. My tally is roughly 30 bucks and 50 does. Been at this for 50 years.

    Ground hunting pressured whitetails

I hunt big public tracts of northern PA. Don’t climb trees and hunt exclusively from the ground. For bow season I find root balls and blowdowns on the corners of clearcuts to stand beside or in. Also have some large rocks size Of living rooms to small houses I’ll climb up and sit on. Have...

Rant - What happened to respect for other hunters???

I’m going to give this a different perspective. We hunt public land exclusively in eastern hardwoods. Group includes pre teens and late 80 year old hunters. After the first day we mostly drive with the goal of having kids and old guys seeing some deer. We occasionally will run into other...

    Do you hunt from home?

State Forest boundary line is 25 yards away on the east side. My stand is 167 yards away from my air conditioner. Still travel 2 hours each way on the weekends to hunt from our camp where I grew up hunting. Works out well.

    And speaking of old guys........

Had it in May on my back between the shoulder blades. Itched, burned and hurt all at the same time. Got the first shot in July. Had no issues. Second shot in October knocked me on my butt for about three days.

    The Hunting In Europe Thread

I’m not looking to shot 50 pigs. Actually figure if I get a few shots I’ll be doing good. Not looking for a trophy head either. Just want to experience the whole deal. Really don’t care which species either. Guess I’m focusing on pigs because they seem to be everywhere and seem to create as...

    The Hunting In Europe Thread

How hard is it to get on a cull type hunt. Not our version of a “cull” but rather “We need 50 more pigs shot”. Or should I just book a 3 or 4:day hunt and live with the consequences. Also better to just rent a rifle or go thru the red tape to bring in my own. I would be looking at a 7mm-08 or...

Do you take a backup rifle on hunts?

Yes. Hunt with family group. Has come in handy several times due to guns/scopes breaking. I play the weather. Blued wood stock for sunny days. Synthetic stainless for rain.

    The Hunting In Europe Thread

I’ve been been intrigued by doing a driven hunt. Did some basic research. Seems like Poland is a good option. Am I right or wrong. Really just want to experience the whole thing. Could care less about a trophy head to bring home. Ideal would be a cull hunt if they have those. I’m figuring 5 or...

    Taking SS early (62)

Forgot to add. I was ready to leave my employer and not ready to quit working so I started a consulting business. Business is doing far better than I ever dreamed of and my income from it is way over the maximum limit you are allowed to earn. So I’m going to get hosed come tax time. Did not...

    Taking SS early (62)

I’ll be 63 next month. Retired at 60 with a decent pension. I had originally planned on waiting until 67 or 70 to take SS. My break even was age 79 and half between taking it at 62 or waiting. I called it the actuarial crapshoot. After a lot of thought I decided to take it at 62 and as my...
