Snagged this big doe with a 77gr TMK at 100 yards. Lung shot behind the shoulder, she rand about 25 yards before dropping dead.
No blood trail but the lungs were turned into soup upon impact. Not sure if I'll use another round for white tail from here on out.
I plugged in some number for 77gr TMK out of a 20" barrel and got a minimum expansion threshold at 210 yards? This seems way off as I was thinking at least 450 yards.
What's the consensus on ~1800 fps for 77gr TMK with a MV of ~2800 with a 20" barrel?
A is TMK?
Looks like B made a smaller but more consistent wound channel. TSX flavored monolithic are great for penetration, I've never had an issue. But that TMK is just special in the tissue damage department.
I've never had a TMK exit a deer, however I've never had a deer get up from a TMK either.
The TSX went right through, not much of a blood trail at all, took me a minute to find the guy in this super tall grass.
As others have said in this thread some animals have more of a will to survive...
Switched from TMK to a 70gr TSX for this one. 50 yard shot, clean double lung broad side entry and exit. He dropped, got up and ran 25 yards and dropped dead. Big, strong buck. Very happy with the performance.
Will switch back to TMK this afternoon for my doe.
Took a doe with a Black Hills 77gr TMK at 100 yards out of a 12.5 bbl. Dropped her right there, quick kill. No exit wound which seemed odd, a lot of the pics and stories on here have soft ball size exit wounds. Anyone else have no exit?
