I just finally got hip replacement surgery at VA last week. I decided that it likely makes any serious western mountain backpacking hunts out for this year.
However I still going to try to whitetail deer hunt. NC mountains and PA mountains. Hopefully I can backpack in hunt or at least day...
Yes I’ve seen those. Agree should be a 20 g.
I’ve seen a 30-06 / 12ga. Be good gun for bigger stuff. I use my 222/ 20ga for small game but have taken couple deer with it in the 222. Under 75 yards. It shoots same hole with hand loads.
Sorry for delayed response. Just had hip replacement 2 days ago.
I wish they would make a 223 /556 also.
Think ideal would be like creedmore or 243 over 12 gauge. They are heavy to carry though
Thank you. Yes those 2 companies I’m familiar with. Excellent bags.
Rei didn’t have any women longs in that bag in store nor the men’s regular. I looked at them and was going to get one on sale. Men’s long is to big and women’s regular is to short.
I ordered a mountain Hardware 0 bag off Govx...
The Guide , Wow you been following me around? Lol
I’ve got a pre 64 model 70 243 I’ve killed a pile of deer with. 30-06 and 300 win are my other 2 favorites. What caught my eye was your over under ! I carry a savage 24 over under for my do all gun all the time in the woods. It’s a 222 on top...
Update on sleep system.
I ordered a new pad. Exped ultra 8R.
kinda narrowed down to 3 different bags.
BIG AGNES Lost Ranger 3N1 0. I can get a good deal on it. And really like that it can be configured for all seasons as well as attaches to pad. $345
Snugpak softie elite 5. I’ve used very...
Yes. That is correct on the rating. I’m tall so I always go by guy heights for length on stuff like bags and I have found that I just go by the survival rating then add 15 or 20 degrees. That’s what I figure is actually comfortable use.
You make some great points. Well I’m definitely ordering the EXPed mat but Starting to think maybe I need to just use my old 7lb bag for month and then just cry once and get a really good bag n be done. Just hate having to carry extra 4 pounds and huge size.
Thanks guys, Well bit Of background here I’ve slept out in -30’s and -40’s a great many times in snow cave, tents of some form and a cave in the rocks. Greenland, Canada , Norway Sierra Nevadas few other places also. Between 10 years in Marines and hunting all my life I’m not totally...
I can get a
MOUNTAIN HARDWEAR
Bishop Pass 15F/-9C Sleeping Bag for $250 but its still a 15 degree. Would i be better off with a Synthetic bag and hump the extra 3-4 lbs?
Thanks Drenalin
I decided I'm defiantly going with the Ultra 7 pad. I do understand that the bottom of the bag will have little insulation. considered going to a synthetic bag in the 0 or colder but really don't like the bulk and couple extra lbs. If Im trying to stay at or under $350ish on a...
I understand. I really gave it my best last year and i just believe all said and done that the fact it was getting heavy pretty pressure just kept them locked up in there till it was good n dark. I not only didn't see the couple nice bucks i know were around but didn't see any except for signs...
I understand the idea of fill. Are you saying that when it comes to pads go with the warmest? Not sure i understand what your saying about the pads , maybe im just having a blonde moment.
Thanks Geriggs,
Well some of the reason for choosing those are because i can get them from GOV-X at a pretty good discount. I was trying to go with a down bag for the weight savings if they work as good or better than non down. Ive got a good many expenses this year and trying to make the best...
