In my experience with the 30-06, H4350, H4831SC, Staball 6.5, and Varget have been the best consistent powders from 150-200 gr bullets. That Staball 6.5 is an impressive powder if you can get your hands on it.
I understand what you’re saying. I absolutely love my 6 Creedmoors.
I just want to push the 100+ gr. projectiles fast and I want to try an AI. I also want to see how it compares to my 6 PRC. It’s just a personal experience thing for me!
I know it’s going to be inefficient. If I was worried about efficiency, I would just run a 6BR.
We will have to see what the old ‘06 case does. The way I look at it is look at the efficiency of the 280 AI in comparison to the SAUM. It intrigues me so I’m going to test one out!
PBB is who I...
The 240 Wby. sounds awesome, but the limited availability of brass is the biggest short coming in my honest opinion.
That cartridge sounds pretty cool!
I absolutely agree. I think that it is going to be a fun cartridge here in MT.
I am planning to post all of my results of my testing and hunts on the “6mm-06 Cartridge Variants” thread.
I know the 6 Creedmoor does pretty good, but the velocities out of a 16-20” barrel isn’t optimal with 100-115 gr. projectiles for long range shots.
I’m shooting for 3200-3300 FPS with that weight of projectiles out of a 16.5” barrel.
After my deep dive into P.O. Ackley’s writings on wildcat cartridges, I have found an inkling to build a 6mm-06 AI (40 degree shoulder). After I fire form my initial 3 pieces of brass to form in my chamber, I plan to send to Hornady to get a custom set of dies made.
So here is my plan:
.25-06...
Hi y’all! I am creating this thread to learn more about and share information about the 6mm-06 or any of the variants that are .243”/6mm descendants to the old tried and true ‘06 or 270 Win.
If you have any experience with any of these cartridges, please chime in and share your experiences...
So I have done a bit of research on the 243 SRC and have found out that it is built off of the 25-06 then improved. There is a thread with a bit of information on the LRHF. I hope that it helps you figure out what you may need for your project!
Also, I am going to create a thread named 6mm-06...
The ones I have read Handbook for Shooters and Reloaders (Volume 1) by Parker O. Ackley, Handbook for Shooters and Reloaded (Illustrated) - Loading Data - Theory Practice - Wildcat Cartridges by Parker O. Ackley, and P.O. Ackley - America’s Gunsmith - Wildcat Cartridges and Designs that Changed...
Wow! You’ve definitely got some history with the 6’s!
Do you have any first hand experience with a 6mm-06, 6mm-270 or any of the variants?
I’m waiting on my 6 PRC barrel, but the nostalgic part of me wants to build a fast twist 6mm-06AI.
Thanks in advance!
I don’t have any experience, but I’m waiting on a 16.5” 6 PRC barrel from PBB then I got an itch to read all of P.O. Ackley’s books and I now want to build a 6mm-06AI or 6mm-270AI. I hope you share your results from your barrel!!
