    Most over-rated Bourbon?

True. By that standard, Jim Beam Maple Syrup Bourbon probably belongs at the top. Doesn't matter what its rating is, it's still over-rated.

    Most over-rated Bourbon?

KCSB is good diluted 1:1 with creek water or a handful of snow to bring it down to 60 proof. The 120 proof cask strength whiskeys are super efficient when drinking out of a pack, and the knob is better than makers cask, bookers, bakers, or any other high proof I've had. Drinking it straight is...

Ultralight chair to throw in your pack?

I have the longer style of Crazy Creek, which is bulkier when packed, and seems mostly pointless, until you use it as a low-r-value pad or secondary pad.

Short range optic for heavy woods whitetail

You can save some weight with a fixed prism if the rail is workable with a single-point prism mount. I have the Primary Arms GLX 2x on a couple things that I like. Just run the various BDC options through your ballistics app and pick which one makes sense. I prefer the 7.62x39 BDC because it has...

    Cheap Stuff that Works

Just be wary of non-new-issue milsurp goretex or rain gear. Based on the abuse these endured in the field. And based on the extra-hot-water and degreaser machine washes that were required by Central Issue before return. I'm pretty sure all our rain gear was turned in lacking any coating whatsoever.

    Simple Field Watch recommendations

I like citizen eco drive solar. They seem to have worked the kinks out of solar watches more than other brands. Been wearing a ~$250 titanium dive watch 24/7 for a couple years straight. Simple analog dials are somewhat readable without illumination, and are more readable than digital with...

MR Gravelly 18 vs Mule Opinions

Are there different generations of the Gravelly? Mine has a meat shelf.

Need a good, solid spotting tripod

Got a beefy Innorel tripod directly from aliexpress. Most US companies are just selling the same Chinese carbon tripods and slapping a warranty and branded labels on them. My assumption is that I'm going to gradually destroy a carbon tripod through abrasive environment getting into the locking...

    Mike Tyson VS Jake Paul

I needed to watch that video where Buzz Aldrin punched a guy to compensate for this.

    Lightweight wind resistance fabric

Sort of niche, but it seems like you're asking for cycle/run clothing as a baselayer. If you're carrying a rifle around in a spandex onesie, people will leave you alone, at least.

    Water Bladder Adapter for Filter

Sawyer sells the QD kit. I've tested its compatibility with source and camelbak bladders. Not really your question, but source sells a little gland that allows faucet or outdoor tap fill through QD also.

    Instant coffee sticks

I use Readywise Trail Magic when I don't bring a little folding pour-over. I prefer single resealable pouch over multiple small pieces of garbage. That and mil discount are probably bigger factors than taste for me, but it tastes acceptable.

RIT dye to change clothing color

I'm not extremely invested in the idea, but I sleep in the open often enough I have considered trying to rit dye a bright orange inflatable sleeping pad. I don't want to use hot water or ruin the pad. Has anyone tried this?

    Fun with 3D Printers

Yep that one. The only two problems was that it would flop under weight, and that unless you pulled it down to your eyebrows, it would point up into the sky when walking. This was the final print of my version. It looks dorky in use, but I'm satisfied. // Headlamp bracket to mount lamp to nylon...

    Fun with 3D Printers

Also, one keyword to look out for is "parametric". Parametric is why I've been gravitating more towards OpenSCAD over traditional CAD like solidworks. Traditional CAD still usually has limited parametric functionality, and I've seen 3d print sites that allow configuration and render of these...

*updated 3/3/24* 2 oz that might be worthing adding to your first aid kit *updated 3/3/24*

On group backpacking trips the only first aid I bring is a SAM splint and tape. Nothing else. If you did a group dump of medical items, there would be massive redundancy in treating lacerations and blood loss. The same as seen in this thread. Breaks and sprains are the most common backcountry...

    2 Way Radio

MURS is great on radios that will do it. Just go easy if you're near a Walmart. Last I checked, they have a grandfathered commercial license that overlaps with MURS frequencies, and interference is no good license or not.

    Fun with 3D Printers

I'm accustomed to making diagonal features that traverse the Z axis in CAD when target is FFF print, but my old printer is pretty terrible at this. Decided to try a horizontal slot with a 20mm flat suspended overhang on my new printer. Pretty brutal feature for filament. Results are tolerable...
