It’s all these damn western hunters that are the problem! Do more hog hunting, it’s a practically unlimited hunting resource.
Seriously though, we can point fingers all day, but this is likely an indication of our culture as a whole. The demand for elk hunts has exploded, but I bet the number...
When I worked in Alaska, we ran into LOTS of brown bears. Common sense helps more than anything, but it was explained to me like this:
Bear spray is nice because you can spray a bear that is nosy/maybe aggressive/curious. You would not want to shoot a bear in most of those situations...
I've read your posts before and I'm sure you get tired of re-hashing the same stuff, but could you elaborate on how you came to this conclusion?
The smaller calibers for big game still seems so counterintuitive!
Glad to hear you found one you like, OP. I’m using 6.5 PRC, and the recoil is plenty for me. Not that it’s unpleasant to shoot, but maintaining sight picture during recoil, and fatigue after a day of shooting are noticeable.
I think we often equate “not painful” with “manageable recoil”, but...
How about an older Burris MTAC? They were pretty high speed back in the day, and can often be found pretty cheap.
I have a 1-4 hasn’t been on anything high recoil, but I’ve beat the snot out of it hog hunting and it has always held zero.
Glad you went with the PRC! I like that caliber a lot.
My 2cents on it:
You bought a precision rifle and caliber. You’ll be looking to wring as much accuracy out of it as possible, so you won’t want to handicap yourself. Since you don’t reload, you’ll have to settle into a bullet that your...
It certainly can! I killed a lot of pigs that way before I had NV and thermal.
You’ll want something with a narrow beam that roughly matches the scope FOV. Some fancy hunting lights (Wicked Lights) actually have zeroing dials on the mounts, but that’s not usually necessary.
Just make sure...
Hunting hogs is so much fun! How in the world is there not a subforum just for hogs?
We have a lease down in GA specifically for hogs, and it's overrun with them. We make 3-4 trips each year and bring back tons of pork.
It started as a cheap hunt, but after the lease, multiple thermals, 6.5...
I've read so much good info on here, and finally couldn't resist making an account.
I've read the entire 170+ pages of "223 for deer, bear, mountain lions, elk etc" so I get a free tshirt right?
