    Slippery Kenetreks

I have a pair of Mountain Extremes and a few pair of the Mountain Guide boots. I prefer the sole on the Guide boots (K73 or something like that?). Has a more defined heel, which I like and need climbing poles in my hooks (lineman by trade). The Guide soles pick up rocks like crazy. But I...

    Overthinking-quiver order for diff broadheads

I have both fixed and mechanical broad heads. Last year, I reached past my Grim Reaper’s and pulled out my arrow with the G5 Montec. Both work. Guess it depends on the situation.

    Bought Hoyt RX8

I shot the RX8 and the Alpha X 30 and 33 (also some other manufacturers ). I liked them all, but the Alpha X 30 really shined and felt amazing. So I went with it. You’re gonna love it. Mine was easy to get dialed in. Couple clicks on the QAD rest and my fixed blades are with the field...

    Your Elk Hunting Rifle

Favorite is my bow. But, if I hunt with a rifle, it’s my Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle. .308. Handloads with 168 grain Barnes TTSX. Quick detachable rings for the scope. Love that gun.

    First time Bow Elk

Good info here. Especially shooting with your pack on. Last year when I shot my bull, I was straddling a small log with one knee on the ground, with my pack on. So don’t hesitate to practice shooting from awkward positions. If you haven’t already, get some calls and practice mewing. Just...

    Boots for whitetails and elk?

I bought my first pair of Kenetreks in 2019. I now have 6 pairs. They’re the only boots I wear now. Pricey, but worth every penny. Great customer service and warranty program. In 2022 I was packed into the high country and hunted hard for a week. Between 8-10 miles a day. Lots of...

    Feedback on backcountry elk loadout

My pack weighed 55 pounds when I got into it. I toted a hatchet, 4 or 5 knives, and just a bunch of crap I didn’t need. Like I said, I hunt the early seasons. Warm or mild weather, so I don’t have to lug around heavy clothes or extra layers. That saves weight. I had a FULL size EMS first...

    Feedback on backcountry elk loadout

I did the same thing when I first got into hunting the high country. Every year, if I didn’t use something the prior year, it was removed from my pack. My pack for a 7 day hunt is now 37 pounds. That’s with food and 2 liters of water. I rarely hunt late season, so clothes don’t weigh so...

Who is Hoffman Boots......let me tell you?

I’m a lineman. I’ve had a few pairs of Hoffman’s. Great boots. While I don’t daily wear them anymore, I keep 2 pairs at the ready. I won’t hesitate to put them on. Super stable on my arches and ankles.

How did you pick your pack?

Word of mouth for me. Couple guys I know, including a guide, swore by Exo. I researched a bit and ordered a K3 4800 BRO. I also bought a 3200. Made in USA. Comfortable. Haven’t looked back.

I am sure this has been asked a ton. What is your arrow weight

440 grain arrow at 299 fps with my old bow. 70 lbs with 29” draw. I recently bought a new bow and am working on a new arrow build. Last iteration was 465 grains at 286 fps. Haven’t nailed anything down so it’s subject to change.
