Questions about the cling wrap and freezer paper method

This works fine. Agree with leaving roast whole. You can then choose to cube it for stew, grind it, make jerky, etc. It also makes the process up front significantly less painful...

Keeping your name off public records??

If you have a family member that is a LEO, you’re able to stay off many public records so long as you request to do so.

    Hunting Vehicle Category

Tend to agree there’s not a need. Forums getting so many categories tends to reduce traffic. People complain the general discussion is nothing but politics, they have a space for everything else though.

Sleeping bag carry with Mystery Ranch Metcalf

I’ve done all of my camp in a dry bag in the meat shelf before. It’s handy when you don’t have a spot picked out but know you’re going up high to scout, but cant stay there due to no water. Drop the dry bag just off the trail or near a creek, hunt all day, come back down and camp there if sign...

Backpacking bag vs Hunting Bag - Have my cake and eat it too

Just get a lighter weight hunting pack, there’s no reason for a 9+ lb frame and bag when there are 4 lb setups that work. KUIU is my choice, the new suspension is excellent also. Unless you’re trying to keep up with people doing 20+ miles a day on the AT sleeping under visquene on half a foam...

concerned about sparks burning holes in my tent.

Never used a wood stove in a tent, but with campfires sparks generally go straight up unless you’re blowing on it aggressively. I’d think with the chimney pipe it would be a non issue.

Epicurious not doing beef recipes anymore

Sad, they actually have some good recipes. Here’s a Texas chili that’s literally a bowl of steak with some chilis and onions. https://www.epicurious.com/recipes/food/views/true-texas-chili-355049 I’m worried for the future of our country. It’s easy to ignore the news and choose to ignore...

Questions for EMTs/Medical Pros on backcountry anaphylaxis treatment

Got it, thanks for the image. It’s hard to envision where it ends up based on looking at it in the package.

Questions for EMTs/Medical Pros on backcountry anaphylaxis treatment

I was prescribed an epipen last summer after having a heat/pressure urticaria pop up. If I continued pushing it I would get lightheaded and feel constriction in my throat. I was glad to have the epinephrine but luckily didn’t have any issues in CO. You might see what your insurance will cover...

If you owned NVGs, would you bring them on a hunt?

No. But we usually pack in a ways and I’m not even willing to take the weight penalty for soap.

KUIU Pro 6000 vs 7000 LT

I agree that I’m a big fan of the 5500, it works very well for a week long trip. My other bag is an 1850 that I use for day hunts ( I don’t carry both in), I don’t see the need for anything else. On any trip longer than a couple days, the only reason you should need more room is extra food...

Back country pack in hunt, gear and pack weights..

I guess you’ve already bought your tags but IMO with limited experience it might be worth just tagging along on your friends trip without a rifle. You’ll still have a great learning experience, and killing an elk several miles into steep backcountry solo isn’t going to be a ton of fun. Not to...

    If you were Alone...

The interesting thing I’ve seen is that with the option of a “go home” button, some of the ones who have the easiest time surviving choose to leave. Their needs are met so they spend most of their day sitting around and missing their family, thinking “what’s the point in being out here?” The...

New Hunter Building up to Deer

I think for one you might need to adjust your expectations. Many hunting shows make it seem like you go out and kill something every hunt, and if that’s not happening you’re just in the wrong spot. You‘re in a very highly populated area with what I’d assume are limited public hunting...

European Union to issue "Green Pass" to those vaccinated, restrict those not vaccinated....

It’s coming here, I‘m sure. Our governor just signed a bill preventing it in FL, but it won’t matter if you can’t get on a plane. What really pisses me off is they keep trying to have it “both ways”. If the vaccine works and protects the person who has been vaccinated, why do I need to get it...

Applying as a Group vs. Individual

Each state is different. Colorado is the lowest number of preference points goes for the whole group, meaning if two guys have 3 points, one guy has 1 point, and one guy has 0 points, you all go in with 0. They also don’t do “extra” tags, meaning if there are 3 tags left and your group of 4...

    Hunting with Migraines

Thankful I don’t have to deal with these, I have found chiropractic treatment to be extremely helpful for a variety of things besides just back pain. It may be helpful with migraines as well from doing a quick search. https://arrowheadhealth.com/can-chiropractic-treatment-help-migraines/ The...

    Optics question

Why even mess with it? I really don’t understand all these new optics companies popping out of the woodwork and who is keeping them in business. Vortex isn’t my cup of tea, but if you want cheap glass, they are your answer.

    Exo dry bag?

I did the dry bag inside the pack thing this year but it was specifically to isolate items. Clothing, sleeping bag, toiletries, etc were inside the dry bag and accessible by opening the pack roll top and then dry bag roll top. Tent, sleeping pad, and food were inside the main pack through the...
