I practiced on a paper target last year at 200 and was thinking I can barely see where I want to put this. Once I had an bull elk at that distance I felt fairly confident that I could put the sight right where I wanted to hit. I don't know about a deer at 200, I guess I would have to see what...
Once you have the knock issue figured out, can you add a rest on the shelf to help the arrow start centered? Mine has one on the rest and one on the shelf.
I zeroed at 150 yards last year with open sights for my NV elk hunt. I figured it would be a dead hold from 1-200. I shot my bull at 190 yards and put in a second one in him at 230 yards. It worked out well.
It also matters what cartridge you are looking for. Some are available in one and not the other. Everything I have seen on the CVA is that it is one of the best entry level rifles. The cascade XT and LRH are supposed to be even better. I'm personally waiting for the 7PRC Cascade XT to hit my...
Both of my kids started off shooting in 4h with either the mini Genesis or the original Genesis. They started off with just shooting fingers and bare bow with no sights. This was pretty good for them as it taught them the basics, good form, anchor point etc. My daughter still likes to shoot...
Love the 25-06 and 270 for speed. The only downfall I have seen with the 25-06 was in a shooting competition my friend was having a hard time with 15-20 mph winds. The light bullets just wanted to move around more than a heavier 7mm.
We have been lucky the last few years and both been getting tags. We enjoy the time hunting together. Here is our mule deer combo from the year before.
The best advise that I got from my neighbor (killed probably 35 pronghorn) was to practice field judging, but just go for one you will be happy with and don't worry about score. They are hard to judge and things happen and change so fast. Just adapt to the hunt and have fun. We did our first...
I drew my first Nevada elk tag last year with 9 points. That put me on a 7 year waitlist and possibly another 7-12 years again before I get a Nevada bull tag again. My wife said you will probably get 1-2 Nevada bull tags in your lifetime so just hire a guide and make the most of it.
I went with...
I got my first elk tag last year and harvested an elk with a muzzleloader here in Nevada. We caught just the end of the rut and still had elk bugling. It was a rush. I have two main hunting goals and one of them is to get an elk with my bow.
I’m on the 7 year wait list now here and probably...
It was a blast, but stressful too. We didn’t put in for a party tag for some reason and got different areas a few hours apart. I hunted the first 3 days in my area solo, went home and picked her up. We hunted her area for 3 days and she harvested. A week later we went to my area and got stuck in...
My older Nikon is only good to 550 yards, but works good. I will probably just keep it for archery and I am looking at the new Leupold RX-1400I TBR/W GEN 2 to replace it. It is very reasonably priced and seems to have good reviews.
We got our Nevada pronghorn back from our friend that is a retired taxidermist today. My wife’s on the left and mine on the right. This was both of our first antelope hunts. What a fun hunt and it’s great to preserve the memories with this on the wall. Can’t wait to hunt them again.
