If you have a lead sled or access to a machine type rest, that should reduce or eliminate the flinch factor. I do think that .22's tend to be slightly more accurate though, but that may be due to ammo. Unless you are a match shooter, you probably don't shoot many wadcutter/target loads. Makes...
I have the Stratus jacket/bibs, the Fanatic jacket/bibs and the Firstlite Solitude jacket/bibs. I live and hunt in N Georgia, rifle hunt whitetails, mostly tree stand. In my experience, the Fanatic set is overkill for local conditions. Haven’t used it the last couple of hunting seasons...
Been looking at the new Optifade Cover. Think I prefer Subalpine in comparison. The new patten is too dark for general use. Probably great for blending in under a heavy canopy or in evergreens, mostly specialty applications. Subalpine blends in well from early Fall through the end of hunting...
Cold tolerance is a personal thing. When younger, I could handle the cold much better than today. Being 66, need warmer stuff. Also live in the Southeast (N Georgia), so conditions are similar to Tennessee.
I have both the Stratus and Fanatic systems. In my experience, the Fanatic is...
I agree that hunting clothes have come a long, long way. Am 66, been an avid hunter since I was a teenager. Not only are the camo patterns more effective, but the warmth, windproofing, water repellance are infinitely better. Don’t really miss my milsurp gear and Walls coveralls.
Magnetic for me. Was a little concerned about noise (snapping shut), but they hasn’t been an issue on the Marsupial. When closing my Badlands harness, you have to be careful to avoid the audible snap.
Another fan of the copper mono bullets. I don’t handload, but have had great results with the Federal Trophy Copper 85 grain. Since switching to that load, have taken several deer and have yet to recover a bullet. All taken within 200 yds, complete exits achieved. The all copper slugs have...
Retired at 65, but am waiting till full retirement age (66 and 8 mos) to draw. Ran the numbers and that made the most sense for me. Break even with deferring to 70, occurs mid 80s.
If you have health issues, probably makes sense to draw early. No size fits all.
My wife and I get bombarded with their junk mail. Agree with others, no way will I join.
The sad thing is, it is hard to dodge the left wing corporations and stop doing business with all of them. I change when I can, but virtually all of the Banks, credit card companies, Apple, social media...
I think the Huron is a decent scope, especially in consideration of cost. Compares favorably with other 3x9 mid priced scopes such as the Bushnell Elite, Sightron Big Sky, Nikon Monarch, Zeiss Conquest, etc… Of course, those aren’t made any longer, glad I have a stash. Fond of my Huron. Sits...
I bought a headlamp and gun light from Nighteyes. https://nighteyeslights.com/
Had good luck with them for Yotes, however, have been using a thermal scanner and site more recently. With lights, you want to scan with the headlamp turned low. Also, needs to be aimed high, where the eye...
I have two .270’s, a Sako 85 and a Tikka. Having owned them for multiple years, have tried a variety of factory loads. Both of my rifles prefer 140 gr bullets, usually shoot just under MOA with preferred loads. My Tikka likes Federal Premium 140 accubond and the Sako prefers Nosler 140 gr...
Have the Solitude jacket and bibs. Although I have some Kuiu stuff, not the pieces you mentioned.
Normally a Sitka guy, bought the Solitude as I was looking for an alternative to my Fanatic jacket and bibs. The Fanatic is overkill for hunting here in N Georgia. During the hunting season...
I think they are pretty similar and often use them together. Both are shades of grey, coloration is about the same. Pattern varies a little, but virtually no contrast in the patterns. As deer are pretty much color blind, black and white photos confirm the similarity.
I have both. The Jetstream has the pit zips and more durable exterior, however, for stand hunting I prefer the Stratus. Warmer and quieter, has the safety port pass thru, grunt tube holder, etc…. Designed for whitetail hunting.
Funny thread, thought it was just me. I am 6’3”, 200 lbs and 66 years old. My shoes and boot sizes vary a lot, but have gotten bigger. Measure to an 11.5 on a shoe size scale, but wear everything from a 10 (Lacrosse Aerohead Sport 3.5mm) to a 14 in an insulated Lowa Renegade hiker. Generally...
