I personally like having the peace of mind that my scope will retain zero no matter what.
My wife uses an (ab)used Simmons that was probably less than $75 like 30 years ago. She still kills deer with it. I guarantee it won’t pass a drop test. It also is not sealed or argon purged or any of the...
I didn’t buy a trijicon tenmile for my last scope because I didn’t care for the reticle. Ended up getting a 5-20 swfa instead; even though I didn’t like the extra weight, nor did I want as much zoom as that scope has.
For me, the reticle is one of the most important items as it’s the only...
I run a holosun 509t on a 357 mag lever gun for my tight woods gun. I vastly prefer the red dot over lpvo’s for the image/parallax at 1x; it just seems easier to get behind quickly. It’s not great at low light; but works perfectly to the limits of legal light in our area (30 minutes before...
Could always go with a Howa. The factory Hogue stocks are kinda crap but you could pick up an aftermarket stock down the road. My 6.5 Grendel in a bell and Carlson stock is a tack driver.
None of the vortex binoculars, monoculars, and range finders I’ve owned and used ever had any issues with holding zero.
The rifle scopes I owned (viper hst and razor Gen 2) would definitely wander on medium/hard impacts but never had issues with tracking. Ended up offloading those in favor of...
30-06 with a 178 amax (same as eld-m), ~2750 fps at the muzzle; shot was maybe 40 yards, slightly quartering away. Entered just behind the shoulder, exited through the off side shoulder bone. Rifle was not suppressed.
Destroyed the heart and lungs as well as the entire lower half of the off...
The high zoom ratio trend is one that I would really like to see end… They always seem to end up having worse glass and more critical eye boxes compared to a lower zoom ratio scope. Also is hard to implement a good FFP reticle across the whole zoom range.
It’s been a while since I looked through the vipers, but as I recall the 2.5-10 was significantly better than the 4-16. The 6-24 was somewhere between the two, but closer to the 2.5-10.
If I wanted repeatable dialing I wouldn’t be looking at vortex or leupold.
I remember seeing an article posted somewhere that allegedly had a new SWFA to review. I know that the ‘dark lord or optics’, Ilya Koshkin, had a prototype one to review. Something to do with a turret system that allows you to have tall capped or exposed turrets and I think a true zero stop...
Man, gun owners just seem to be such lousy boat operators..
If you didn’t ‘need’ 1x you’d have a few more options but I still don’t know if sub 6 is going to happen.
Just built a long action 300wsm; so I’ll share my thoughts.
1. I don’t think so. Especially on short barrels; I don’t see the ~1/2 pound difference being worth the extra cost.
2. Seems short (some might call it average sized) but I’m sure it’d be enough for the velocity you’re looking at...
You mention both dialing and holding over; which are you more interested in doing? For a few hundred yards on targets and <200 yards for hunting (which I think is a realistic number for most hunting applications) I agree that the 3-12 klassik may be overkill. You could probably do all of what...
I emailed asking about the ETA on the mil version. Was told that it should arrive in the coming weeks. But after seeing the reticle; that is a bit thin on the thicker posts.
I’m sure it looks better in person; but I’d want the posts to be at least as thick as they look at 10x at 2.5x.
I...
