It's very possible that some refined crimping technique could have fixed my neck tension issue, but I never managed to get it right that way.
The fog cleared for me on this when I saw small shards of the bullet that had been shaved off when seating it in the case. I had very uneven neck tension...
I tried that when I had issues. It didn't work. What did work was neck chamfering. Not saying crimping won't work in some other situation, but I spent a lot of bullets and range trips to figure out what was going on. Chamfering is not optional, at least not with the brass/bullet combinations I...
Are you chamfering your case mouths? I've had similar issues loading TTSX in .308. The bullets seemed to be chaved by poorly chamfered case mouths, completely ruining the neck tension. This also made bullet seating depth inconsistent.
Hey the Leupold Mk4hd 2.5-10x weighs 21 oz and it comes in mil adjustments. It also has a very clean reticle.
Is the reticle workable at 2.5x in the ffp version?
You know what would be sweet? - a S&B PM 10x (or 12x) fixed, with a small aimpoint on top.
It surprises me that the selection of lightweight scopes with target turrets is so limited, with all the mountain hunting and long range shooting going on. Yes, there are options, but they're all in MOA.
That's a good suggestion. It has a smaller FoV than the Swarovski, but I'm sure it's more rugged. Kind of annoyed by the complexity of the reticle for an SFP scope in this application, but it could still be a winner overall.
I'm looking for a scope for my lightish allround hunting rifle. I hunt in lowlands with a mix of forest and field, so some shots are close, some are far.
- Very good optics quality
- At least 10x maximum magnification
- At least 40 mm objective size, for hunting in dawn and dusk
- 22 oz max...
My dad had a BAR for at least 15 years. I borrowed it a lot as a kid. Lovely rifle with good ergonomics, decent accuracy and very smooth recoil. It was generally reliable, except for when it got very dirty and its lube got old and sticky. There is a lot of metal on metal gliding going on in that...
I guess everybody's already out of popcorn but:
- Tikkas have the best feeling bolt there is, bar none. Keeping a two lug design for slick cocking, but limiting the required rotation to 70 degrees is genius
- The mini Howas and Remington Model 7's are cute, but the action size is a moot point...
The Sako 90 is made in a variety of action lengths. I've never seen one chambered in .223, but the Sako 90 is a sweet design. I'm kind of bummed out by the stock. A Sako 90 with a CDL stock would be a great thing.
I have the same day dream. I think I'd also want to adjust the curve of the profile ontop of the pistol grip - the wrist. It bugs me that it's concave like that.
I've got a bad itch for a nice wood stock for my Tikka T3. Richard's Microfit stocks seem nice if you put the time into it for fitting, finishing and cutting checkering, but Boyd's seem to be good to go out of the box, and I hear they've upped their game lately. You can even get decent grade...
