Been a reader for a while and finally decided to sign up. I have been on the 24hourcampfire for years and Bass Boat Central too. I enjoy hunting, fishing, shooting and reloading. I generally hunt PA and GA every year with a smattering of CO elk hunts in there too.
I am retired Navy but still...
I do not shoot monos out of every rifle but, if I do, it is a Barnes TTSX or TSX. They have been reliable in my 243s and 338Fed. I also bought some LRX for my 7mm-08 but have not loaded them yet. I see no reason to switch from Barnes.
My V3X 33 is due for a new set and I ordered a set from Catfish. I have not put them on yet but have used Catfish for the multiple string replacements on my 2006 Switchback.
Thanks for the replies. It does have a 24” factory barrel. A rebarrel with a better twist is probably in its future but not right now. I do not plan on hunting out to 1000yds. I like to practice at far longer distances than those that I will shoot in a hunting situation. I do this in...
I have a 223 that has been fun getting out to 900yards but want to get to 1000. My 223 is just not quite there. I was debating a 6.5 CM but in reading some comparisons, the 270 looks up to the task but with sad bullet selection. I already have a Rem700 in 270 that is a good shooter but never...
I started out with a Rem600 Mohawk in 243 then got a Rem760 in 243. I have used handloads for the majority. 100gr Remington CL, Sierra 100gr GK and Hornady 100gr IL all downed both Mule deer and Whitetail deer for me without a failure. Same with javelina and coyotes. When my kids got old...
I load for my son‘s Henry 45-70. It has been a killer on deer with both 300 Hornady and the 325 FTX. Based on how a deer has never stopped one, either would be good for elk and add in the 300gr Barnes TSX as well. I killed several elk with 50 and 54cal muzzleloaders which are weaker than most...
