I have the above rifle. Just your standard 270WIN with a tupperware stock. I have a slightly used CDL stock that I used for hunting that this gun was bedded into. "G" prefix on the serial number. 24" barrel, XMPro trigger set to 3.25 pounds by a gunsmith. It shoots Winchester Deer Season XP...
Having hunted in Colorado many, many times you are fine with your current binoculars. You will be walking a lot. Work on lightening up your gear, not adding to it.
I have had 100% success with Rocket Steelhead 100s but they are no longer made. I have had 100% success with Slick Trick Magnums too. Using a well tuned bow, hitting in the right spot from a good angle with a SHARP broadhead is more important than the brand.
60#s is just fine. 400-475 is the sweet spot for penetration, flat trajectory and limited “extras” screwed onto the arrow. I use Slick Trick Magnum 100s.
Practice to 80 or even 100 yards to perfect your form. Keep shooting ranges under 50 or 60 depending on you.
Since my first “338Fed” was actually a 338-08 I had built before Federal claimed it, kills with the round is several dozen. Most of them were shot with the 200gr Interlock but that bullet was discontinued then I switched to the Federal Fusion. I normally try to take out a shoulder to limit...
It is funny the assumptions that are made. I shoot 5-13 deer per year and have for decades. Federal Fusion, Hornady Interlock/Interbond or Barnes TSX/TTSX have never failed me. I just do not see a reason to waste that much meat.
I hunt in areas similar to most. In PA, the hunting pressure is high and mountains are generally steep, At my lease in GA, we have a big swamp, a deep creek and thick briars that can make recovery tricky but never needed to have those sized holes in deer. I like venison too much! I rarely...
Why do you want that much damage as pictured by KenLee? I like the Federal Fusion 165gr from my 30-06 for deer. It always exits, leaves a nickel to quarter sized exit hole and the deer rarely take another step and if they do, it might only be 30yds. From one of the magnums, it would be even...
I have been running Zeiss, Meopta and Swarovski on many rifles since two of my Leupold scopes failed internally. Not a single one has failed. My Zeiss V4 6-24 on my 223 gets dialed a lot out to 1000 yards and back. It has been perfect. In my experience, I would not shy away from a Zeiss V4...
I have had Swarovski Z3s on my lightweight customs, a 7mm08 and a 338Fed, for many years with a lot of miles on them. Neither one has failed or had the slightest of hiccups. I have accidentally dropped them too. The capped turrets and 1” tube are limitations if you are looking at dialing. I...
