I find them under caves in OH sometimes, but they only seem to be used during the summer. Not sure, but it seems like they might have less caution in regards to escape routes in the summer due to less predator (human) pressure? I am assuming he beds there to be in the shade for most of the day...
If I was hunting purely private, I would probably stick with stands. I hunt all public though, and am going in blind or don’t have a tree pre picked, so a saddle is a good setup for me. My summit climber was definitely more comfortable for me, but never can find a good tree for it that’s in the...
Been keeping an eye on it as well. Seems like it has had quite a bit of rain over the past few days. Sounds like fire crews are letting the rain handle it, and they’re more worried about flash floods than anything at the moment.

Hi, I’m up in Garrettsville. 44231 area code. Only other person I’ve had any interest from is in FL, so I would much rather ship here in OH somewhere. Where are you located?
2013 Summit Specialist MLB. Weighs right at 16 pounds. Haven’t used it much the past few years since moving to an area with no limbless trees. Was used quite a bit before that. Extremely comfortable stand, and packs in rather easy. Just don’t want it collecting dust in the garage when it would...
A sleeping pad is definitely something I’ll keep an eye on. Seems like merino, sleeping pad, and trekking poles are going to be the most suggested items so far.
I will definitely look into them. My brother had a taste of one of the old fire areas in there a few weeks ago. I’ve never been, but he will at least help us know what to expect. It will definitely be a cool trip. Hoping the monsoon rains kill the Johnson fire sooner than later, but we’re...
16B is the unit. If it was just my brother and I, we would most likely stay mobile and keep camp on our back, but it’s been a dream of my Dad’s to do a drop camp since the 80s. Worth the trip to have a hunting trip with the three of us. Brother lives in NM, I’m in OH, and dad is in WV.
It will definitely be an awesome trip regardless of if my brother gets an elk or not. That would definitely make for a good story with the knife. I will definitely keep that in mind. Good luck to you as well!
He does not have any merino. Trying to convince him to get some merino socks. A merino shirt and long bottoms might be a good option. I know I love mine.
