How much hunting does your wife let you get by with?

I asked an older friend once about this same question. He said his secret was dancing. He took his wife dancing once a week and she didn't bother him about his hobbies. I recon if you know what she needs, take care of that, the rest will go smoothly.

This is why we cant have nice things

Add a subdermal button to make it purr on contact and you've invented the best dang cat on the planet. You could market them to pet stores. Create the impossible burger of pet cats.

    Creepy experiences in the backcountry

We were camped in the desert with no service when these satellites came online apparently. The first night they were in a similar trajectory to each other and came by one after another. The second night they were in a line. It seemed so sketchy and it left me wondering what people around the...

This is why we cant have nice things

Btw, I'd like to point out that she saved the rest of the dogs, at least her glaring ignorance did. The unfortunate event led to the discovery of these dogs, their round-up, and now they are at a shelter in Missoula. That probably doesn't make the one she skinned out feel much better, ha ha.

This is why we cant have nice things

Apropos of nothing I'll share about a husky I had as a youngster. That little bugger would run away at any chance it had. Answer the door for the pizza man and he would blast through at full clip between your legs type of dog. Couple of times I would have shot that sob myself if given the...

    Yellowstone - Season 4 - This Sunday 8pm

I don't care for the show but for any fans out there, you can see some of the set stuff just E of Clyde Park at the Crazy Mnt Ranch. I think they have been filming some sort of pre-quill out there. Maybe they still are.

    Dirt bikes in MT.

So you also have never witnessed or heard of dirt bikes riding in wilderness? Same here.

Unfollowing Hunting Social Media Will Make Hunting Better: Matt Rinella Essay

Thanks for the article Matt R. I agree wholeheartedly. Unfortunately I think the effort has as much chance succeeding as stopping prostitution, and there are far more similarities than just outcome. Pimps, whores, johns, and then the rest of us old grumps shaking our fists at them. Here we...

    Dirt bikes in MT.

Huh. I've been hiking in wilderness areas in MT for 40 years and have NEVER seen a dirt bike in the wilderness or even a track from one. I've never heard of it. But you reckon it happens "ALL the time"? I've never been affected by OHV's while hunting but I generally don't hunt where they can...

    Cool-Bot Walk In Cooler?

I've been running one for years in a similar setup in my shop. If you are reading this and have the capacity to construct such a unit I would. It is the greatest luxury to come back from a hard hunt and just string up the game in the cooler, come back to it as suits you, and with better results...

Watch it before it disappears: Australia's take on Wuhan

Thanks for posting this. I think it is the best reporting I've seen on the subject. One thing I've not heard anyone discuss is just what a "happy accident" this must have been for China. It was said in the report by Trump that he didn't believe the virus release would have been purposeful by...

Long-term planning and building up backcountry gear

With this, I would say your sedan will work just fine to start. In short, you are setting up for quite a challenge and should have little trepidation of where to carry quarters. As an ardent fan of Camus I appreciate a Sisyphean adventure to the hilt and in no way would dissuade you but I think...

    Other hunters lying

I'm glad this thread exists. It helps to discuss the ethics of asking where game was taken. Personally, I decided a long time ago that it was really a rude question, especially for a stranger to ask. It is along the same vein of asking to see someone's pay stubs--if they wanted to share they...

Let's talk grazing on public lands...

I've not read the responses here, so this might be repetitive. I support grazing on public lands. Most ranchers I know are land rich and cash poor. However, ranches in the west are the best hope we have for wildlife. The alternative is what we are seeing everywhere in MT: development. I hope...

    Cancelled my Amazon account

I dropped Amazon after the Parlor thing. I don't have an account there (or any other "social media") but I realized how terrible their influence has become for America and freedom. It's a small sacrifice to make but if everyone who Bezos is screwing over did the same it would be a different...

Question about butchering and dry aging dear/venison

You've really got to have a plan for how the cuts will be used as you break it down and package it. You will want to remove the rind and a lot of the crud between the individual muscles as you separate them. When complete, I typically have a top round, bottom round, eye of round, rump roast...

    Scotch

I've not been much of a Scotch drinker (I've been slumming around the tequila offerings for some years) but I want to thank those of you that suggested Oban 14. I might just have to convert--that is some good stuff.

    Rental car sticker shock

This is probably unrelated but I thought I would post as a psa. My buddy is a detective and he said that gangs work places like trail heads and health club parking lots. Those are the two he mentioned. They are called "felony lane gangs" because of their methods of cashing in. What they are...

    any whitewater fans out there?

I can't recall those old films either. We also boated Sweetgrass Cr to the N of Big T and it was a similar character. It was a long hike up through the same private checkerboard that hunters are fighting to access. The rancher would allow us access back then. One of my buddies died in the Box on...

    any whitewater fans out there?

I was pretty into it in the 90's and early 2000's. I was boating some pretty heavy stuff with a good crew. One summer I lost two friends, had a close call, and had my first child. I hung it up and haven't kayaked since. After helping extract the body of a boating partner I determined that dying...
