Was hoping to do a deer / duck combo and figured later was better for sea ducks. I've camped in Cold Bay and Adak in Dec & Jan so I know about the long nights and bad weather. But if the deer hunting isn't good in Dec I'll just focus on deer and hunt in early Nov. I believe they'll be rutting then.
I love hunting all game, big & small, but I find myself hunting birds more and big game less. I hunt waterfowl diy in Alaska every year and also other locations across North America. It's much cheaper than big game and I still get the big adventure. I just got back from Alaska yesterday.
Deer hunting on Lana'i Hawaii and my friend drove into a deep narrow washout that was hidden by tall dry grass. The truck was precariously teetering on the edge of a deep gulch supported only by the foot rail contacting a boulder. Some kids on bicycles came by and I sent them to call for a tow...
I marked mine as a firearm because many times, even with it marked, it comes out in the oversize area and nobdy asks for baggage claim ticket or ID and I just walk away with it. NOT GOOD !
I fly mostly out of San Diego on Alaska airlines. One time upon arrival in Ketchikan I saw my locks ( one at each end ) had been cut off and replaced with just a single lock at one end. I complained and requested that lock be cut off and 2 replacements be given to me. They obliged and a...
Yes, always check your airline's policies. I know traveling NZ air the ammo must be checked separately and the rifle bolt too must be in a separate checked bag. However, in the US ammo in the gun case is fine.
I have a Cabela's double heavy duty aluminum but I no longer travel with traditional gun cases.
I outfit my own diy hunts and this often times requires lots of gear. Now I travel with an SKB golf case with padlock latches added to both ends.
With this set up I can max it out to 50#
I almost lost my leg at age 13 from a motorcycle accident so I have favored that leg thus putting all the work on my good leg. While hunting tahr in New Zealand at age 50 I tore my meniscus in my good knee while packing out a tahr in this drainage. I had shot 2 of them so the next day I had to...
It's a late 70's model Browning. It only looks 100 years old. I've been shooting it since it was new and shiny. We've grown old and ugly together. Riding between my legs in a kayak on the Bering Sea has been rough on it.
That is Derek's boat. I had drawn a permit for STA 5 for the last day of season and I offered to take a local with me on a Florida hunting forum. Nobody responded to my offer. I went to Florida a week before my permit hunt and I got in on the standby draw. It gave me the chance to figure things...
I do original ideas and keep it in theme with where it was taken.
