We are flying out with Arctic Air on August 31st. I learned the hard way living in BC that folks can tell you that you don't need to filter water because the area is remote. And then you get sick. Real sick. I bring my Platypus system everywhere. We bring two clean bags with caps so we can...
I tried out my UDAP this weekend. I thought it wasn't working and I kept fussing with it without a result. My son walked up in barefeet on the grass and grabbed it...it was working. He got a good zap. I was wearing running shoes and apparently was totally grounded. I tried it barefoot. Good...
Question about whether its worth the weight to bring a shotgun and shells for ptarmigan in Unit 23? We are hunting with Arctic Air August 31-September 7. My guys are at odds about including it in our 80 lbs per guy weight limit. Having never hunted Alaska before but wanting to shoot some...
We always use Cellhire out of Dallas for renting and buying sat phones. Easy to work with. They will ship right away after your rental order, or before the 30 day window of dates you need it. Rental is for a month. About $300.
(214) 355-5200 is their sales desk phone number.
Well, we are going into the Brooks Range on August 31st for caribou. All of us are newbies. We bought a UDAP 45X45 fence. Allocated weight for it. I will send a report when i get back. Testing it this weekend and trying to get one of my kids to be the guinea pig. They want cash money first...
One note on sat phones, which for full disclosure I own an Irridium. If you call your wife, partner, spouse, kid etc. on their cell phones, you generally just pay the per minute rate, around $1.79 depending on your service and plan. The person receiving your call does not get...
Simms or Patagonia waders, and Simms G3 Guide boots. Not felt sole, rubber sticky soles. Can't use felt soles in Alaska to my knowledge. I own both brands of waders and the G3s and would never use anything else.
We are heading out of Kotzebue on August 31st for an outifitted/unguided caribou hunt. One question my group has is who if anyone is it standard to tip, and how much is a baseline for tipping?
This is new to our group so any input is much appreciated. Thanks.
I have a pair each of Kuiu and Kennetreks. I prefer the Kuiu because of the stretch and tightness around my legs. Keeps out water and debris better than the Kennetreks, in my opinion.
I hunt in multiple states and twice in Canada each year. Including my share of our deer lease, probably $5k -$7.5k each year, including gear. This year will be more due to an Alaska trip. My wife doesn't blink at it because I am self-employed and was the flexible parent while raising our kids...
We don't have any PPs. We hunted with an outfitter last August which was a great hunt, in area 26. Drew first try. We are time limited due to our jobs so public land seems a little daunting with our time constraints - i.e. scouting time.
Anyone have any information or feedback about archery hunts with Werner Ranch in Wyoming? We are looking at booking a hunt in Wyoming in 2020 or 2021. Thanks in advance for any input.
I'm 5'10' and 150lbs. Kiln Hoody in medium fits perfectly, although the sleeves are a little long but I just roll them up. FL has them on sale right now.
Crispi Wild Rock GTX - best bootsI have ever owned
Black Ovis merino long underwear and gloves - wear them almost daily here in MN
Sitka Timberline pants - wish i could find them in Moss in a 34R to go with my other pair
Goal Zero Sherpa 100 power pack - spent five days in an antelope blind...
Well, I started this discussion last February so I thought I would weigh in. Sheila has been awesome to deal with. We are booked for end of August through first week of September 2019. Obviously a lot can go wrong on this trip but we are ever hopeful. It seems like a number of parties had...
