My group hunted out of Kotz in 2019. We were about to send in our deposits to the outfitter for a 2022 hunt when this thread caught my eye.
Without the benefit of knowing the history and how the feds are going to approach this issue, what are the actual odds that 23 and 26 get "temporarily"...
Great story. Great photos. Loved the one piggybacking Aubrey across the creek. As a dad who has done the same for my daughter since childhood, and did it for her last week as a 16 year old on the Gallatin, it brought back good memories.
I have been asked by so many folks for the recipe this week that I will type it up and post it. I always have just made them from memory based on my great aunt's recipe with vague directions such as, "Make the dough."
I suggest that utilizing farmer's carrys/walks into your workouts is a great way to build muscle, both strength and some mass, it works your core, it works your traps, it works your triceps and biceps, and it works your legs. Plus, depending on weight used and distance, the cardio component is...
Simms G3 and G4 wading boots are good for hiking. I found them in combo with my Simms chest waders to be a critical part of my kit on a caribou hunt in 2019. Just replaced my G3 boots with G4s after my son "borrowed" them and decamped for Colorado permanently.
BH, thank you for sharing the videos and comments. That was a lot of fun to watch.
We hunted out of Kotz in September 2019. Same as you, we didn't see a ton of caribou but shot three for four and should have had the fourth.
We brought and used a UDAP 45X45 bear fence. Worked great. Had a...
I shoot Nosler accubonds out of my Sako A7 .270WSM. They have knocked over every whitetail I have shot for ten years.
Last September, I shot a bull caribou at 56 yards. That was very close. The round probably hit the bull at around 3000 fps right behind the shoulder. Nothing but ribs and...
Last year I wore my Attack pants in camp over merino mid weight underwear with Yukon rain pants over them. While hunting, it was hard walking and found my Yukon rain pants over merino mid weight underwear was my go to pants combo. It was wet everywhere we were. Wore the Yukons almost...
MTC: I did a lot of solo hunts in my 20s when I lived in BC. I am a lot older now, and I am not sure I would do it again - especially in AK or northern BC. Last year in the Noatak area, two of us got out on time and the other two got tent bound for three days at the end due to a nasty...
That is a native Lake Nipigon, Ontario brookie. We have caught them up to 27" in June. They are in 2-4' of water 30 miles from shore on island rock beds at that time of the year. My favorite fish!
Glock 20 10mm with night sights when in griz country. Otherwise, in black bear country (and with a new problem cougar that hangs around our property in the Midwest) I carry a SA XD in .45.
We brought two Platypus filters last year to that area for our hunt. It paid off having two extra clean bags. Four of us drank a lot of water. I would never drink unfiltered water up there or anywhere else. I got the G bug in British Columbia years ago - it was miserable.
