Is hunting still THAT FUN anymore?

To answer the question in the title… yes it’s still THAT FUN.

    FNG TX/NM

NM is always worth a shot in the draw. And if you’re planning an OTC hunt, it wouldn’t matter if you bought your tag until after the NM draw, most likely with your NM refund.

    Rough day

My daughter dealt better with us having to put down my wife's 13 year old Portuguese Water Dog than she did with us giving away a parrot (Nanday Conure) that we tried to foster for a bit. He was a beautiful bird, but he was the loudest, meanest/biting-est little shit on the planet. My daughter...

    What is this picture?

I only see one fence and a long shadow of the once fence. Looks like the start of a foundation for a silo, a wind turbine (but would be seem a little small for that) or a large transmission tower.

Im scared of blowing myself up with reloads

I blew up a Nosler M48 Patriot in 280 AI a couple years ago. The casing failed, luckily the bolt stayed in place and didn't lodge itself in my face. Still got super lucky because the extractor did shear off, blew backwards and blew the bottom metal off of the rifle and lodge itself in my rear...

    New Mexico officially bans scopes

There are definitely some units where the muzzleloader success is very high (Unit 34 Elk for example has been climbing for the last 5 years; 77% in 2021 supposedly). But the same unit for mule deer with a muzzleloader has seen success rates below 20% the last 3 years. The state of New Mexico...

    New Mexico officially bans scopes

This one hurts a bit. The muzzleloader hunts were already pretty limited tag numbers. The mule deer hunts I like to apply for have 175 and 125 total muzzleloader tags respectively. Where the same units have 2 rifle seasons and almost 1000 and 750 total tags between those seasons. But it's the...

Euro Question: Hair at base of horn sheath

@wytx - I just like the cleaner look of not having all the random hairs poking out of the bases.

I’ll be in Arizona chasing elk with my muzzleloader around Thanksgiving…

Euro Question: Hair at base of horn sheath

I use a torch to burn the hairs. Usually can get the horns/sheaths off after 10-15 minutes in the “boil”.

    Going from 0 for 3 to 1 for 4 - first bull

Finally got my first bull after eating tags in New Mexico, Arizona, and Wyoming. Colorado was kind to me and I found myself in the right pace at the right time to take my first bull and beyond that a 6x6. I had the first half quartered out when luckily my new favorite people (Aaron and his son...

    How many years

I'm 0 for 3 on bull tags. Have 2 chances to change that this fall. Other species I'm running a little better statistically. 1 for 3 on Coues. 3 for 5 on mule deer, and 6 for 7 on antelope.

What are you feeding your dog?

I feed my dogs Wellness Core. My English Pointer has been on it for 13 years and she has done really well on it. So sticking with it for my two new dogs (Schnauzer and American Water Spaniel).

    Colorado land access

Lots of wire-gaps in Texas on leases/ranches I have hunted. Cheapest gate there is. Run into a bunch in New Mexico on more than one hunt. Also had to deal with quite a few in Wyoming last week as well. If it's built correctly, they are pretty easy to pop up and down. I have also removed the vast...
