So I'm planning my first sheep hunt up here in Alaska. Over the counter hunt. Putting together my gear list trying to get an idea of how brutal my pack weight will be Haha. Looking for feedback on what I could take out or add.
Side note, my hunting partner will be packing the tent, InReach, and...
I would recommend getting the large size instead of regular size. I'm 5'10" and the regular is almost to small in length on my Nemo Nocturne 15. I've heard the same thing from several people as well. Great bags/shape for side sleepers.
I have a Nemo Nocturne 15, discontinued now. Its closest to the current Riff 15. The non mummy shape (spoon shape) is awesome. I'm not a mummy fan and im a side sleeper so the spoon shape works great. Highly recommend the spoon shape, and its definitely light enough to backpack hunt with. Get...
For judging/practice, what was the spread of the legal moose your buddy shot? Looks like 65"ish to me, fantastic bull. Lots of brow tines as well. Great write up and good on you for doing the right thing and reporting and actually writing about it. Helps people learn. The first pic of the bull...
The original Halstead was loose fitting. The new Klamath is more athletic fit. I wear XL in everything but First Lite actually recommended I size up for the Klamath when I emailed them last year when it came out, fits great except sleeves are a little long by upsizing now.
In my opinion Kiln is more versatile, you can use it as a base or mid weight layer. Klamath is more of a mid layer/outer layer. You'll probably get more use out of the Kiln.
I use the Klamath a lot of the time as an outer layer on nice days up here in Alaska. Its a lot more durable since it's not merino. Klamath holds up decent to alder abuse.
I have the long range bag. Great bag, extremely well built and will last a long time. I like the external frame and the ability to put meat between bag and frame. Hauled out multiple caribou with mine. Bag is big enough for multi day hunts. I bought the extra pod/accessory attachment for longer...
I have the nemo nocturne 15 down bag. I love it so far. Only used it in low 40 temps so far though. Lightweight, packable, lots of room due to the shape. Their length measurements are a little off as im 5'10" and got the regular length back, its almost not long enough for me. It works but if i...
Cabelas instinct outfitter. The outfitter has a stove jack and they have two different sizes. The 10x10 would work well. They are a little heavier but in your situation thats not an issue.
Cabelas recently discontinued the big horn, might be why you cant find the ground tarp. Not to sure on their reasoning. I've heard good things about the tent.
I love my Nemo riff 15. Warm, light, and decent price. I would recommend getting the long version. The regular size runs a little small. Perfect bag if you want a little more room then what mummy bags provide.
