I'm looking for a new rain jacket for the wife. I'm perplexed as to why goretex jackets range in price from $100-700 if they are all guaranteed to keep you dry. What does that extra $600 get me?
Oh you're in for a treat... If the smell is off putting now, wait till you cook some up. hahaha The bucks in the end of Oct and Nov can taste awful and are nothing like whitetails.
That's just sad... 10 years ago you could buy a desert hunt for $50k, today in the 5 minutes of looking... I found a number of them for $50-60k... unless you want to hunt high fence, er island rams... at $90k :D No clue on comparison between those of today vs 10 years ago at that price. 10...
It seems like the desert hunts have kind of plateaued at the $50-60k mark? At $500/mo you might get there in 8-10 years depending on how much they increase and if you can get a decent return on your money. No way would I throw away $3000 in raffles in hopes of getting drawn. I suspect that...
People are so desperate and fearful of not being successful, they are willing to pay someone a whole bunch of money for information that could be gathered on your own, just to increase their chances of success
That has to be one of the saddest things I've ever seen. Wonder what a sheep spot would sell for? $8000? I have a handful, maybe I'll put them up for sale.
Depends on how warm your garage is. We used to have frozen elk quarters that would take 3-4 days to thaw in 40 degs. A moose quarter isn't that much thicker. I wouldn't worry too much if the temps are under 50. The meat will be ok for a few days. Don't wrap it in plastic, just let it hang in...
Great ram! Congrats.
Looks 5 to me, and also FC. There are around 8-12 5yo and 40-50 6yo rams killed/sealed each year. Some areas of the state produce FC rams much younger age than others. For instance some areas of the Wrangells produce a lot of 6-7yo FC rams (and very few old rams) while...
As I alluded to earlier this year... In addition parts of the Alaska Range (South of Fairbanks) and the Brooks Range showed lower than expected populations; some units had the lowest numbers recorded in the last 15-20 years. Good luck, I think we might need it!
Aerial sheep surveys reflect...
stalk sheep when they are up and moving, not when laying down. They can be really hard to see when lying down, and will see you well before you see them.
I would suggest you find another source for information. OnX sucks in Alaska due to the complicated land status and conveyance of property in recent years. The land status database they use is not accurate or I should say the status is not representative of definitions used by all land agencies...
I heard this the other day, along with another large outfit shutting for this season. I can't remember which one it was though, and it was second hand info. Sucks for many.
It all depends on what your expectations are for "heavily hunted." Is seeing another party considered heavy pressure? To some it is. Is knowing that someone may be in the area, considered pressure? To some it is. Is having a foot race to rams, considered heavily hunted? Extremely unlikely to...
If more people figure this out, GoreTex will be out of business. l've never had a pair of goretex lined boots keep my feet dry for more than about 6 months.
Dang... never heard that one. I always take sunglasses, and the sheep die every time. I had snow blindness one time due to forgetting my glasses. Not being able to see, and having my eyes hurt for a few days is something to consider.
I wear regular glasses, and don't have an issue with using...
Harvest stats after the last bad winter 12/13 showed about a 18% reduction of harvest in both '13 and '14, and nearly a full year reduction in age of harvest in some areas. A full year is a big jump.., meaning very few old rams were shot, so younger rams where taken. The number of 10yo and older...
