Having eaten everything on that list, mountain goat is easily the top of the list for wild game I've eaten. Especially if it's a younger billy that was well cared for in the field, with some nice fat on it.
I'm by no means an expert, but I have helped bring 6 goats off the mountain for other folks and eaten tag soup on my own. That particular clip I think is one of the hardest I've seen in the billy vs nanny game. The side view screams young billy to me, but the front view is ambiguous/leans young...
Not me. The entitlement people have to leave personal stuff on public land just pisses me off. And seriously, I've had a brand new tarp on private land get shredded by squirrels in just a few days. New or old, don't leave stuff on public lands.
At 3:08 you can see his left side has a tine that goes 2-3" past the edge of the paddle. As he's walking a little before that in the video you can see a similar tine on his right. That's a ~55" bull.
Oof, yeah I'd have killed that bull 🤣 He's mid 50s all day long. But 7 years ago on my first moose hunt I don't know that I would have been as confident.
He's definitely not a no brainer +60". And it is for sure always nice to have the brow tines requirement met. I'm pretty sure that bull would be around 52" minimum, maybe as big as 55" if he has tines that stick out.
The paddles on him are pretty wide and there's still a lot air between the...
Strongly disagree. Nobody just gets to leave their stuff out on our public lands beyond the time-frames allowed (usually 14 days, but it varies) unless they get a permit to do so.
I can't tell you how many raggedy chunks of tarp I've packed off the mountain for other people (and seen way...
Great write up and I love the pics. I would be pretty confident that that bull is over 50" based on the pic, but I absolutely respect the choice to not risk it.
Cougar tastes great. If you get one, just take care while skinning it and removing the meat to leave the paunch intact as long/much as possible. Lots of nasty stuff in the guts of a cat.
You also have a much shorter window to get the meat and hide off and taken care of than you do with...
There's a lot of great advice throughout this thread. One thing I want to add that I haven't seen here yet is to be prepared to identify post partum issues that your wife might end up suffering, and be ready to communicate with her and her doctors to effectively advocate for her. I really hope...
