Anyone else have a buddy bail at the last minute? (CO Archery Elk 2024)

I'm a day hunter wanting to branch out into backpack hunting and 1-3 nights. No one I know wants to do that. Likely due to my occupation and the type of nerds I'm surrounded by. 🤣

Anyone else have a buddy bail at the last minute? (CO Archery Elk 2024)

No. I have no friends that want to hunt with me unless it's road hunting.

Stuff overheard at the range or local gun shop

If I hear one more gun store salesman reccomend a 338 Lapua to someone for getting into1 mile elk hunting I'm going to squeal. Also then general fuddlore and mythology around the 338 Lapua is worse than the 6.5 Creed.

    Micros in wind

My 30" Easton 6.5s shot fine in the wind. No excessive wind drift at 60 yards (about the furthest I can shoot properly) My issue is controlling the bow in those 15+ MPH winds. It's like holding onto a kite.

Almost hit this 8-point on my dirt bike...

I had a grouse jump and fly in between my leg and the fuel tank. I panicked and squeeze my legs in. The grouse panicked and flapped harder. At first I didn't know what it was all I knew was something alive was trapped between my leg and bike. 🤣

    Build a 6cm, Buy 243 1/8 twist or go with a 6.5cm?

I stalked the forum for 7 or 8 years before posting. Not sure how OP went 11. Lol I have hunted with a .243 since forever. I wanted a new rifle and wanted to try something new so I got a Tikka in 6.5 Creed. I'm enjoying it, shooting 143 ELDx hand loads. Inalso tinker with 123 ELDm but...

    BX-4 Gen 1 Vs BX-4 Gen 2

Haven't spent time behind the Gen 2. Just picked it up at the store. It's petty but the eye cups on the Gen 2 are worth $80 for me lol. I use the eye cup adjustments on my binos and I hate the Gen 1 system. Every time I touch them the eye cups move. Glass wise I enjoy the Gen1. They...

Do you only grind your own wild game?

Does the loose breakfast sausage turn out OK without any of the stuffers or other sausage tooling? I'd like to make my own breakfast sausage if possible but not wanting to buy extra tools for it right away. I don't really eat cased sausage or anything like that

Do you only grind your own wild game?

I do want/need to learn the cuts and such. I'm getting to that point I. Life where cooking on the pellet grill is exciting but I am not knowledgeable on the meat selections. 🤣

What caliber would you start a hunter with?

Dad started me with a 243. This will be the first year I haven't hunted deer with that .243 since I got my license. Absolutely love the cartridge. I bought myself a 6.5 Creed because I wanted my wife to use the .243. He also started me on a .30-06 and even with "reduced recoil" loads I...
