Do you hit your dog ?

I like the e collar more, especially for off leash training. That way you don't have to be close enough to give them a love tap. If the collar isn't on, I also train for a finger snap. If they don't listen after the snap, then a swat to the butt (or take the time to get the e collar)

    Vx5 3x15, vx6 3-18, or ??? For lightweight/long range rig. Opinions wanted.

I hear you man, I think you only need the V5. Vortex says you can get to 1000 with a simple 3-9x. https://vortexoptics.com/blog/what-riflescope-magnification-should-you-get.html#:~:text=You%20can%20shoot%20out%20to,will%20have%20their%20own%20preferences.

    Vx5 3x15, vx6 3-18, or ??? For lightweight/long range rig. Opinions wanted.

I chose the V5 because of exactly what you said extra money and weight for red dot batteries. How likely are you to be in a position where you can't take an animal because you needed higher than 15x? Based off your answer above, is the extra money and weight worth it?

When is a buck acceptable to shoot to preserve the deer herd? Should everybody be a trophy hunter? (Montana Rut thread carryover)

I wouldn't call that a dink, nor a problem. I'm no wildlife biologist, but cervid numbers are mostly based on doe numbers and quality of habitat. The males make their rounds. I understand the better buck next year mentality on private land, but it's too much to ask for on public. That mentality...

    WTS Duluth Pants

38x30 standard fit Duluth trading pants. Nothing wrong with them, selling because I lost weight and they're falling off. 4-way stretch material, mildly water resistant. They worked well for me in early season. I especially like the pocket on the right leg for phone/knife/GPS, and that the right...

    Home Depot 15% coupon??

If you do a change of address with the post office, they normally send that coupon. Just pick and old address of yours and say your moving to your current address. It's not wrong, it's just delayed, and you get the coupons when you can actually use them.

Bedding question for the resident gunsmith's--barrel channel

I'm a fan of free-floating barrels. I agree with WeiserBucks though, I haven't seen any performance differences between the various options.

    A camera for the lady

High quality, used DSLR (think 5-10 years old, $200-$500 range for just the camera). Nikon or cannon, maybe Sony if you like. And a couple lenses, no more than 3: regular zoom like 18-55 or 18-200, macro or low f stops, maybe a huge zoom lens or a cool prime lens. The camera tech doesn't change...

    Too dang fat

Intermittent fasting has worked well for me. I'm down 35#. 20 of which were last year. Easiest way to start is to skip breakfast and get your coffee black. It's not a fast with cream and sugar. Only water, black coffee/tea. There are two 'you', the one who wants to lose weight, and the one who...

    Half sizes above 12?

I struggle with double wide. Most companies don't even offer single wide, so I go up two sizes on normal boots. We're not the target market, I guess

One rifle to do it all

I agree and personally have a light 308 for an almost everything gun, but I know I'll pick up a caliber with more authority if/when I go for true big game. If I truly only had one gun for the rest of forever, I'd want the extra uumpf of a 30-06, or go the other direction and pull a Jack...

Other than big game hunting what is your go to small game hunting?

Varmints that mess with the chickens, chicken food, and garden. Hunt might be a strong word for it, more like depredation
