Jason, take into consideration it can take a couple of weeks of a few minutes a day practice to achieve some elk sounds. Don't rush it but be persistent in daily practice. It's all part of the process!

Jason, great looking elk! To your question Lip Bawls are not a vital sound that needs to be mastered. Work on it as you have time & it will come to you! Make sure you have a good tight single reed for your best results.
There are other bull sounds that can represent the same message as a Lip...
One of my favorite tactics on OTC hunts is to stay back from the Wallow/Waterhole. I prefer to be 100-250 yards away & Advertise/Display in their domain! Doing this allows me a great setup spot where I have predictable wind.
The 1st 10 days of elk season is my favorite times to use this. Elk...
Go over the App. When on elk sounds choose the sounds you want to know more about & how to add those unique tones. It's there all on video as well as written content under Tips & what each sound represents to the elk! It's a matter of communication; not just making an elk sound! With this in...
I hunt with it on. Truth is I'd ditch it in a heartbeat if I could figure out a way to have it off but accessible. Haven't had success at it yet!

Seriously, I have no specific kill it as it were. I just carry things I've used for years to break down an elk. I have no idea of weight. It ain't much though.
If I'd offer any advice I'd say don't over think it, bring what you need & no more. It's just elk hunting!

I used to feel that there wasn't any terrain too tough, no matter what! Not these days! I do limit myself but those limitations are still pretty high standards. But to the question; yes there are some pretty severe spots I say no too where as in the past it would have been a different story...
CMS829, I've hunted quite a few western states & getting away from most hunters is easily done. Find those small secluded areas in-between trailheads & roads where you carve your own trail. Find these on a good mapping App. Choose 6-8 spots while at home & you'll have great starting points! --...
Colorado is big country! If you plan on hunting where everyone else hunts & the way they hunt then yes your concerns are well validated! If you plan on carving out your own access & not worry about others then pick any dates that work for your schedule!
Personally I wouldn't be concerned about...
UncleBone, thank you sir! Word of mouth type feedback is awesome! No doubt the word is spread by actual users other than social media hype! Lots of hunters recommend this App & I do appreciate them all. It has a lot to offer for sure to the new or experienced elk hunter, thanks again!

There's nothing written in concrete as to the size of a bedding area. I will say it doesn't require much real-estate for an elk or a small group of elk to spend the day. If hot they're normally in a fairly cool & shaded area. I've located beds where it was steep country & elk beds were just in...
Those photos are not of daytime bedding areas or of benches as elk look at benches. Those are more feeding areas if anything. If beds are found in those spots they would be more of a night time bedding area as opposed to day time bedding areas. Big difference for the elk hunter!
Just don't...
There's no doubt there's a certain amount of glamour hunters fantasize about in hunting for days off their backs, I've considered it as well but have yet committed to it. Nothing wrong with it but I have to ask myself & you do too if it's really necessary! I'm a bowhunter at heart & find that...
Here's what I have done & still do. I'm pretty frugal! (grin) You want 1-24000 USGS UTM Grid 7.5 minute Topo Maps, these are what Surveyors use for ground navigation. I buy mine from the town closest to the Hardware stores where I'm planning my hunt. Most run 8-10 each, generally takes 4 maps to...
