How do you clean the inside of your boots?

Yeah. I have half a dozen pairs at home, but I work two-week hitches and often don't have the packing space for more than the pair I'm wearing and sometimes one spare.

Best .22 pistol Browning Buckmark or Ruger Mark IV

I have a buckmark. It was very finicky about ammo when it was new, but now that the recoil spring has worn in it will run swill at the level of remington golden bullets. I got the buckmark because it was at a deep discount on a black friday sale. I originally wanted a Ruger. I worked at a...

How do you clean the inside of your boots?

Howdy Rokslide, Sorry for a gross thread. I wear Zamberlans every day it's not snow machine season. I have kind of chronic athlete's foot and can't seem to shake it for more than a few weeks at a time. I think that the treatments I use on my feet are working, but it's possible I'm...

im in need of a new backcountry mattress.

I love my neoair Xtherm for backpacking. I have an Exped megamat for car camping and it's even better. It's 10x the size of the Xtherm, but if your llamas have the real estate, it would be totally worth it.

    Sidearm or bear spray?

I used to teach bear safety classes when I worked on the North Slope and I shot through dozens of cans of the stuff. I put a lot of trust in bear spray but did notice something that unnerved me so much that I will spam every bear spray thread with it until Counter-Assault gets their shit...

    If you didn’t Hunt...

I'd probably bird watch and catch frogs. Maybe scuba dive and get into wildlife photography. I'd find some excuse to keep chasing animals.

    Oh the (wal-mart battery) shame...

I have a truck I used for contracting/consulting work that spends most of it's time off road. It kills a lead acid battery once every three to six months. My understanding is that lead acid batteries don't handle shaking too well, and the cells break down in a way similar to when you shake a...

What is your biggest public land pet-peeve?

I always assume they're running a cpap machine. They're probably not, but it makes me less angry to pretend.

What is your biggest public land pet-peeve?

Sloppy shooters who don't consider what's around their target. I really hate being in the desert on weekends when squirrels are up. I'm frankly surprised more people aren't injured or killed by stray bullets from trigger happy whistlepig shooters. I've had dozens of close calls.

    Rubber boots for Alaska

I wore Mucks every day when I worked in the puddle tundra of interior AK. I think they hold up much better than xtratuffs ever since xtratuff moved production overseas. If you're already used to hiking in Muck boots, all the better. What type of moose hunt is it? Are you mainly hunting off a...

    Brush busting Simms Waders

Yes sir. I run mostly cable restraints and cages but do set footholds over my thigh without any worry. The G3s also hold up way better than neoprene against the culvert edges and riprap I end up against all the time.

    Brush busting Simms Waders

I use my Simms G3s for Animal Damage Control work and take them through a lot of terrible brush, over barbed wire fences, etc. They've been great.

    Boats

Boat prices are currently at an all-time high across the board. My father in law and I were both actively trying to purchase boats when covid started. He was going for a big fiberglass deal to take eight people out for kokanee and lake trout. I was building bare bones a 20 foot Alumacraft with...

    Bear Bait recipes

I've bought some stuff from WinCo that was somewhere around 26 cents a pound. That's $13 for a 50 pound bag. It was just called "dog food". I'm pretty sure if I closed my eyes and tried to draw a beagle I could have made a better logo than the one printed on the bag. I would never feed it to...

    Bear Bait recipes

I found the holy grail of discarded fryer grease: Long John Silvers. My weak human nose found racoon and bear tracks a hundred yards from my bait by following the smell of a fish sandwich. The network of grease trails leading to and from the barrel was super effective at calling bears in. I'm...

    Buying salvage/rebuilt title truck

I would avoid buying a salvage or rebuild in a fast-paced auction environment. Anything with that designation is worth the time and money to take to a mechanic for an inspection. Even if you're mechanically inclined, it's a good idea to just pay someone to put it on a lift so you both can get...

    Opossums eating ticks

I've eaten possum quite a few times. It's a lazy cliche, but it tastes like chicken. There's a stringy texture that I wasn't too keen on, but it probably didn't get a fair representation given that my friends and I were kids at the time and pretty bad at cooking anything.

    Fairbanks Fishing Guide

I've also flown into Minto Flats with Alaska Fly-In fishing. We flew in on a floatplane, stayed in one of their cabins, and explored Minto Flats by launching the provided boats from the cabin. The trips are pretty affordable and the cabins are perfectly fine if you bring your own mosquito net...

CALLING ALL 2nd GEN TACOMA OWNERS

Between my truck, my buddy's truck, and my work truck I've driven every tacoma configuration. The DCLB has an OAL and a wheelbase that is over a foot longer than the other models. It's kind of a boat. The DCSB and ACLB have the same short wheelbase. I personally love the short wheelbase. Those...
