    Recommendations for a 7prc Suppressor?

I've used my SilencerCo Omega 300 on everything from a .300WM down to my 6.5 PRC and it has worked great!. Very little POI change on my rifles and recoil is less than without it. Not quite as reduced as with a break but still manageable for all.

    Cold Weather Hunting Hat

I have the Alpacas of Montana hat and love it!. Mine did stop the wind and it was almost too warm. I was wearing it in temps of zero to the upper 20's and if on the move I Had to take it off or my head began to sweat.

    Altitude help

I'm from NC and at an altitude of 250ft or so. I hunted the first week of November in SW Montana anywhere from 6500 to about 9000 ft and it took a couple of days for me to get acclimated to the altitude. This was with me arriving 2 days before my hunt. At no time during the hunt was I muscle...

    Turkey Smoking?

So here is how I do mine. I spatchcock my turkey and then brine it the day before and let it sit in my brine for about 24 hours. Then I pat it dry and rub the skin with olive oil and sprinkle Cajun seasoning all over the skin. I use a pellet grill to smoke it. I set the temp at 225 and smoke...

    Late Season Pant Comparisons

I just spent a week elk hunting in SW Montana and the temps were anywhere from Zero to the upper 20's low 30's. I wore both the Stika Timberlines and the SG De Haviland's Both were warm and easily handled the cold and the wind. The Sitka pants were quieter but I liked the pocket layout of the...

    Rucking Gear Question

I use a Bear Komplex weighted vest. This past year I ran/walked 3.5 miles 3 times a week with 35 lbs in the vest. I also used it while doing yard work. Price wise it's pretty good. What I found out when shopping for plates is they can get pretty expensive. The 2 15lb plates I got where...

Where to start - Offseason Workouts

Off season isn't much different than when training specifically for a hunt. My diet consist of proteins, beef, pork, fish and chicken, fresh vegetables and fruit, carbs to a point. So I eat as clean as possible. I stay away from processed foods and sugars other than what comes naturally in the...

    Puffy Pants Recommendation

I used the Black Ovis Anchor Point top and bottoms and am more than satisfied with them. I used them in temps from 0 to the low 20's and when glassing they kept me warm and comfy. Very lightweight and packed up nicely.

Moving on from a Mystery Ranch Metcalf to what?

Moved on from a Metcalf to the Exo K4 5000. Just spent last week in the K4 and really liked it. Glad I made the change.

    Insulated layers questions

This past week I hunted in SW Montana. The temps were anywhere from 5 to 15 in the mornings and 25 to 30 during the day. As far as puffies are concerned I wore Black Ovis puffies. On top I had a light synthetic Sitka base, a Sitka fanatic mid layer or a Black Ovis Merino mid layer and then my...

Sitka Timberline VS Stone Glacier De Haviland

The SG's are definitely louder than the Sitka's. However, while walking I didn't really notice the difference. The main reason for that is we were walking in crunchy snow a good bit of the time. Now if you run your hand over the SG's and then the Sitka's you can definitely tell the difference.

Sitka Timberline VS Stone Glacier De Haviland

It's not that the pockets are an issue it's more of a personal preference thing. To me the regular style front pockets on the SG pants were easier to use. I also liked that the cargo pockets were more on the front of the leg because of the zippered vents. I was easier to stuff gloves or other...

Sitka Timberline VS Stone Glacier De Haviland

I just spent this past week Elk hunting in SW Montana. I brought these two pair of pants to wear. I thought I'd post my impressions of both of them. I wore the Sitka Timberlines the 1st 3 days and then the De Haviland's the last 3 days. The temperatures were as low as 0 degrees and 20's for...

    Hunting with supressor vs brake

I don't know what the Banish 30 is like but my little Banish 22 is awesome. I also have a SilencerCo Omega 300 and really like it. SilencerCo has a lower priced option of the Omega and it comes in less than 600. Its the DTM. Regardless the Banish line of suppressors are very good budget...

    General Fitness Preparation vs CrossFit

I did regular gym strength workouts for most of my life, I'm 60 now, I always thought I was in pretty good shape. When I was younger I could run 6 minute miles forever it seemed. Then I started doing Crossfit about 8 years ago and quickly realized that, at least aerobically, I was nowhere near...

Best insulated boots for stand hunting?

My feet sweat pretty easily and then freeze. I've worn Alpha Burley's and others with 1000 grams or more of insulation and still freeze. This year I'm trying a pair of Schnee's Pac Boots. One thing that has helped a bit is using unscented spray on antiperspirant. Helps with the sweaty feet.

    Lighter recoiling elk rifle

I hunted with a 7mm08 for at least 20 years and loved it. However, a lightweight 7mm08 is not a light recoiling rifle. I had a Kimber Montana and a Remington Mountain rifle. Both of them had fairly stout recoil. Nowhere near a 300WM but still. I currently shoot a 6.5 PRC with a muzzle break...
