I live in region G. It's awesome that we have some huge mule deer. I'm no trophy hunter, but have a couple in the 170's and my brother and dad have 1 or 2 in the 190's. However, I don't love and choose to live in Wyoming for the trophy potential. It's all about opportunity.
I love a nice...
Great info OXN939 and wytx. I've shot quite a few, but they just go on the pile in the garage. Maybe I'll try to get one house worthy next time I shoot a nice one.
The Backfire Youtube channel posted a video testing a 7mm PRC he had custom made using the SAAMI specs. It's interesting if nothing else. He got faster muzzle velocity using the same load in that and a 7mm RM. Nothing definitive, but interesting.
I got my string of 1 1/2 year olds out for their first overnighter with packs on 3. They did great and as far as sleeping goes they were silent all night until about 5:00 in the morning, but even then it was just faint sounds of feeding.
At the beginning of each day they would battle to be in...
Do you do the late cow hunt? Or are you just being funny cause it's a refuge? Just curious because I have friends who do that hunt and have considered it myself
I was in my local gun shop this weekend. They have a pile of large rifle primers, but are asking $0.20 each! Hard pass unless I get desperate enough to buy a $20 pack of 100 to tide me over someday.
From watching that backfire video preciously posted, it will have significantly less recoil than the 28 and a little better barrel life. But if you're looking for a laser cannon and don't care about 35 lb recoil, it has nothing on the 28, which will still have a few hundred fps advantage.
Oh yeah, and last year my buddy hunting up there with his dad were charged by a grizz while bugling, and then they had 2 elk "claimed" by them and most of the meat was lost. So I agree, the incendiary grenade may give you the added confidence you need. 😂
It's an old thread, but I'll play. My first successful solo hunt was when I was 13. I had a broken foot and a cast, so my dad and bother left me opening day of deer season to go to the honey hole. I was mad and decided I wasn't going to sit there, so I threw on my army surplus camo shirt and...
Very interesting thread. I wanted to comment back on page 1 but figured I had to read the rest of the responses first. It's easy to see that there are a lot of people commenting who have never lived in a grizzly dense area, but also a few who do and have come to terms with risk and adjusted...
This is from the Wyoming 2021 Annual Grizzly Bear Capture Report
They captured 45, and killed 30 last year.
"Grizzly bears are removed from the population due to a history of previous conflicts, a known
history of close association with humans, or if they are deemed unsuitable for release into...
Do you mind sharing which stock you picked? I'm seriously considering a sig folding stock, but haven't seen any put on a sharps bros grip. I'd love to see a picture of your setup.
So I'm actually doing the same thing with my encore chambered in .308. The Chaote is basically what I'm looking for, but it's VERY heavy when compared with others. SSK makes an adjustable, folding stock that looks awesome and if I remember right was something like a pound lighter than the...
I drew a late season whitetail buck tag. That will be fun, having never shot a whitetail buck before. (I know, crazy, right, but Western WY has mainly mulies. Whitetail hunting is new to me as an adult) I've shot a few does and I've helped my wife take a few bucks but now it's my turn.
I did...
Wow..... It's hard to take in so much good advice on how to become a WKR in such a short amount of time. Maybe now I'll get there someday.
But really though, jsoronen234 just showed us how to go from junior to WKR in one thread. Nice strategy and dedication. I've been working on it slowly, but...
