I had good load with IMR 7828 ssc. 63-63.5 gr going roughly 2955 fps. Last year I got ahold of some RL-22 and worked up a load to try and get a little more velocity. With 62.5 gr I'm getting a muzzle velocity of 3033 fps. I'm not much of a target shooter, but with this load just doing load...
When I got my moose back and hung it in my house, there was definitely a strong smell that lasted a few months, but it was chemical/conditioner type smell that I didn't mind one bit. Nothing pissy or rotten. That would be a little disturbing.
I've never had cow before, but I shot a 3 1/2 year old bull a few years ago. It was the best tasting game meat I've ever had. I had some non-hunting family ask if I was sure it was moose and not beef when I grilled some up. As good as it gets.
I don't know the exact amount of meat we got off...
I had this doe (my first archery deer) peek over a rise at me that I had just ranged at 35 yards. All I had was the frontal shot, but as I drew decided that white neck patch was a great aiming point. She dropped like a box of rocks. Sounded like that's what my arrow hit too. The broadhead went...
Someone will be drawing that tag and shooting an antelope in that unit. Game and Fish reduced tag numbers where needed. If you're okay burning your points on a year like this, you might as well be the one filling the tag.
I shot a mule deer buck at about 80 yards free hand and hit the spine right behind the shoulders. I was shooting a 7 RM with 154 gr Hornady SST's going roughly 3000 fps at the muzzle. Upon impact it blew an entry hole about 8-10 inches across and I found lead shrapnel throughout the backstraps...
Yeah, it's always good to be grateful, and if you're not, there's something missing. But to the old meat hunters who taught us how to go out and get it done, hunting and harvesting is an enjoyable chore. "If you need some meat, you go out and get some meat and have a good time doing it" I can...
I was 99% sold on getting a Stone Glacier because of its minimalist design, but then saw someone on here selling a Miley Freak Stealth bino harness, which is basically a Stone Glacier knock off, but it has a larger front pocket that can fit my range finder. I love having my range finder in front...
I usually put in for some extra whitetail tags for backup freezer fillers. My wife and I both shot bucks this last year and both tested positive. I decided I wasn't going to feed it to the family with a positive test, so they both went to the landfill. I don't think I'll be putting in for...
From 2016 to 2019 I lived in griz country, Wyoming, and despite seeing tracks and sign every time I'd be out and about in the hills, I only ever had one confrontation, and it happened in my front yard.
Our house was part of a subdivision that was strung up the side of side of the mountain...
My wife got the Mossberg Bantam in 6.5 CM, and she loves it. I made her handle every gun under the sun, and that's the one she chose for best feel when shouldered and working the bolt. I even tried pushing her into the Weatherby Camilla, but she said the Mossberg felt better. She only shoots to...
A few years ago, I decided it was time for my wife to get her own gun after struggling to hold and locate game in the scope of my long, heavy Ruger #1's. After several months of having her handle every gun in every store we came across (including the Weatherby Camilla, Kimbers, etc) the one she...
What do your families like to "do"? My family spends all of June in Alpine on the lake fishing/playing on the shore as well as the boat. If you fish, there's also 3 different rivers in Alpine you can hit.
However if the family isn't into the outdoors and you don't fish, I'd probably leave...
Here's a bump on a great looking hunting rifle. I would love to try this out. I'm a 7mm RM lefty but I've only hunted with single shot Ruger No. 1's or RH rifles. A 700 BDL was actually on my list once upon a time. However, after finagling with the Mrs. and buying a gun, a scope and doing a...
I got approval from the Mrs. to finish my track sled build and have already put it to good use.
I also got a Solo Stove Lite from my brother and the wife and I got 2023 Idaho fishing licenses from the in-laws. (We live just across the border in WY)
It's been a pretty great Christmas
I also used to do tile full time and now do it as a side gig part of the year. Schluter stuff is great but is pricey. If you're wanting to save money on overhead or your drain isn't centered so you need to do a custom shower pan, I like to use the Goof Proof shower kit by Mark E Industries...
