Obviously size and velocity make a difference but after seeing @sargent 's bull, overall similar performance.
Exactly, that's why I was dreading the ELD-X failure story that went along with it because that's what I've chosen to use for my larger calibers, and have been happy with the...
What did the elk do? I'm just curious because I've had great success with the 162 gr ELD X.
And from what I've seen in this thread, wouldn't you expect similar performance from the TMK of no exit and not much blood trail, but (the possible exception depending on what your friend found) total...
I just wrapped up a successful overnight solo hunt. I agree with you about the focus and successful parts of hunting alone. If I'm in grizzly country I try not to hunt alone, or I tell someone exactly where I'm going and don't deviate. It's still nerve racking.
Not in grizzly country, my...
I have recently decided to get my first left handed bolt and settled on the Savage Ultralight, which is threaded and I plan on putting a suppressor on, but it does have a 22" barrel.
Anyways, in my looking, I did come across this Savage Magpul Hunter. It has an adjustable length of pull...
Yeah haha. That's the most common reference I get. As a kid, I worked on a ranch and the rancher gave me the nickname. I guess I reminded him of a farmer character in a memory game called Husker Du (Danish). Anyways, it stuck. To this day I have family and friends that call me Hoosker.
Thank you for sharing those details, even though you basically already told me that. It's nice to have the background info on how you have arrived at that conclusion. Much appreciated. I'll do some more searching for that thread as well.
Does anyone have firsthand experience on how the Scythe does compared to the ultra 7? Obviously it's smaller, so perhaps more ideal for hunting, but how well does it suppress?
I'm just starting down the suppressor road as well. I was curious what your thoughts are when comparing the Gunwerks 6ix+ to the Ultra 7. Which do you prefer?
Great data point to show the real world extrme low for that bullet. I'm happy you got your antelope and he went down hard. Great shot!
That's my go to bullet as well, and after seeing that I will definitely keep it north of 1,700 or maybe even 1,800 fps.
Last season I kept a $100 bill in my wallet, in case of your described scenario or if I had a bull down farther from the truck than I intended. If in a jam, I would happily hand it over to some fellow hunters with horses or time to help me get the meat out. Thanks for the reminder. I'll go make...
As soon as you get to your new home, start exploring. I've lived in 3 distinct parts of Wyoming. In each place, I'd talk with people and get some ideas of general areas to go, but by checking out maps of public land and getting boots on the ground, I have found awesome spots in all 3 places that...
I collected a little data today that I can share.
I took a frontal shot on a buck antelope at around 180-190 yards with my 6.5 Creedmoor using 143 gr. ELD-X leaving my barrel at 2,685 fps. Impact velocity would have been right around 2,500 fps.
The bullet entered just off center of the...
After a couple blown stalks with my 6 year old hunting partner, I was feeling the pressure to deliver, so it was great to fill my tag with the helpers along with me. He even was actual help with gutting and was adamant he help drag every step of the way.
Haha your math is correct... however, with real world variables, when I shot at 400 I was 2 moa (~8") high. Most of that was taken care of by getting a true zero, but I did also adjust my chronographed muzzle velocity up by about 70 fps to match what the bullet was actually doing.
PS - scope is...
Make sure your point of impact is dead on at 100 yds. I was doing the same thing but my zero was about 1/2 moa high (touching the top of the bullseye), which then turns into 2 MOA high at 400 yds.
I did also estimate my actual velocity to be a bit different than what my chronograph measured...
Cup your hands together making a small hole at the top, like you caught a grasshopper or something you don't want to get away. Then tell your kid to take a look in the hole, and see which eye he looks in the hole with. I did that with my daughter who's 3 and it was clearly her left eye every...
