2016 Season Recap- Tagged Out in the Land of Giants......

So you can see why I had no intentions on killing a smaller younger buck, when you are in the midst of giants. Big 9 had showed himself to me several times, and it was getting aggravating. However, I was also aware of a real good wide and tall 8 that would do nicely, if he would just cooperate...

2016 Season Recap- Tagged Out in the Land of Giants......

While he certainly is a good looking buck, and sporting 9 points, he just doesn't have the age I was hoping for. Then this guy show up in the field of golden rod tending a pair of does. The pic isn't good quality, but I think you'll get the gist of his size. Pic was with cell phone and he was...

2016 Season Recap- Tagged Out in the Land of Giants......

Here is the youngster I let walk. He has alot of promise but just wasn't old enough. I guessed him to be 2.5 yrs of age, or a complete yearling stud.

2016 Season Recap- Tagged Out in the Land of Giants......

In the days that ensued, I happily watched several bucks whom were clearly yearlings. They are a fun lot to watch, as it's their first season to be involved in the rut, and they look and act like awkward teenagers. It's quite comical some of their antics. I saw some other respectable bucks of...

2016 Season Recap- Tagged Out in the Land of Giants......

I have been reading and participating here and there on this forum for a little bit now, and thought I should contribute something instead of just reading all the time. Here is a write up from another site I frequent from time to time, on last year's deer season in Michigan. Two years in a...

Need help with best time for caribou hunt

I am curious to what you mean by this comment as well? My group has time to adjust if necessary, we have not committed with any transport as of yet. This is the first time I have heard anyone say to shy away from the Brooks for caribou, and potentially look later and off the Haul Rd.

Need help with best time for caribou hunt

I am planning on heading the the Brooks in 2018 as well. It appears that most operators working in the North Slope region, shut down operations around Sept 1st, due to the fact that weather becomes very unstable and winter hits near then. So if you are thinking North Slope, you can probably...

    Beware of booking hunts

Thank you for the response Larry and the ensuing information. We are planning our trip for August of 2018, plenty of time and well enough in advance to adjust if necessary. I believe we have settled in on 26 A, mid August for a 7-10 day drop off hunt. We are going with a group of 6 hunters...

    Beware of booking hunts

Thanks for the info. I don't find this or the rest of the group palatable to come all this way to hunt within the confines of high water marks on navigable waters. Sounds like alot of potential conflict with other hunters, natives and grizzly bears....of which we would not be able to take...

    Beware of booking hunts

Ok and good to know. This should have been something that was talked about via phone at the very least. Thanks for that info.

    Beware of booking hunts

I received a phone call Saturday while enroute to my deer hunting lease. While I was driving down the turnpike, I received a phone call from an outfitter/service from Alaska. To be honest I had forgotten that I had left this outfitter a message. Anyways, conversation ensues and goes along...

Sitka v Kryptek v Kuiu v First Lite

Thanks for all the feedback, I took a look at Linton Outdoors and their package deals with Sitka, thus part of my reason of asking about a system or one manufacturer. Not a bad price on either of their packages for what comes with it. I saw a coldfront jacket over on camofire yesterday, but it...

Sitka v Kryptek v Kuiu v First Lite

I am currently sorting thru a myriad of options to gear up for an upcoming hunts in the Brooks Range for Caribou, and I am having a difficult time deciding on which clothing manufacturer to invest into for this trip. We are going mid August and are planning on doing a drop cam via BRA. I am an...
