40 Mile vs Brooks Range vs North Slope

Yes they should, but they have to becareful how they advise. As a transport service, technically they aren't suppose to outfit/guide. Get on the AK fish and game email list and it will help keep you abreast of changes and when tags become available for sale. Transporters will have area of...

40 Mile vs Brooks Range vs North Slope

North Slope, either the migration is there or it's not. They are wanderers, and if you aren't in the migration, you may only see small groups drifting thru, or perhaps a few summer residents wandering about. Can't comment on 40 mile herd, never been, but my understanding is that herd is more...

40 Mile vs Brooks Range vs North Slope

Well, you have to decide if you want an outfitter or a transport service. In Alaska they are two different things, and quite a bit difference in price tag. We had a group that hit the North Slope of the Brooks in unit 26A this year. It was a DIY hunt, and planned and prepped for 2 years...

    Anything you wish you took?

Sounds like you are now going with Arrowhead. There are alot of mixed reviews regarding them, I would do some reading and make sure you know what you are getting into. It's a long way and alot of money to hunt north of the Brooks.

    Tent for BRA

I went with BRA this year and you want a 4 season tent. We used several different types between our group. My stepdaughter and I were in a Cabelas XPG 4 man. It was comfortable and held up in wind we had come ripping thru the pass one morning at near 50 mph and it held up fine. Bathtub floor...

    Anything you wish you took?

Take hip boots, float plane means water and likely there will be drainages and feeders you will have to cross. You get your boots wet, you will wish you had them until your boots dried out. Spotting scope, saved us alot of wasted walking on assessing bulls at a distance. Walking the tundra...

    2018 Caribou-Brooks Range- BRA

No, that 2 of the fellas set up on the other flat ground that was there. Flat ground next to the lake was a premium, three tents we slept on a slight incline. It was that or hike up to the gravel bar out back and away from the lake and be exosed to elements and being visible to critters. We...

    2018 Caribou-Brooks Range- BRA

    2018 Caribou-Brooks Range- BRA

2 years of planning and prepping has come and gone, and it went by faster than we thought. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you for answered questions and a great forum for research, everyone had a hand or influence in our hunt whether it was known or not. We went up and had a great...

    First Time DIY Drop Caribou

Good thread. We are heading out in 3 weeks to hunt the last half of August north side of the Brooks. We are pretty much in countdown mode, most gear has been shipped and is in the hangar waiting for us. Traveling commercial as light as possible. It will be our first trip to Alaska and...

    Cabelas Krotos Spotting scope

They eye relief does get tighter if you jump up to 60x, I just turn the eye cups back into the scope and it seems to take care of that issue for me. I would give them a call, if it's backordered on a discontinued item...doesn't make much sense unless they are double checking their inventory to...
