thus the reason I only archery hunt elk in CO...but even then have to accept public land BS that happens.
least no one shooting 800+ yards over my head!
Sorry for your bad experience. Sometimes a few bad apples out there. But surely there are better outfitters in the Sask, just more expensive.
As far as tribal attitudes for the outdoor resources go, I think of that old commercial with the tribal native crying a tear. Native tribes claim...
as SOLO, my 10x12 Rainer Wall tent, interior alum frame, complete camp-gear takes me 4 hours.
And that is without cutting a min 6 days/nights of wood for the woodstove, collecting 20 gal of fresh creek water.
But then I'm in my early 60's age, so take my time with a few 5 min breaks.
see my...
not too happy either with some December archery OTC closures.
IMO, just spreads that pressure in closed units to other open OTC units.
Just like 24B, just an hour drive from Gilbert. It's now closed to December mulies. For sure it was crowded, but my observations were more ATV/UTV riders...
Every year of the past 18 years as a non-resident hunting OTC archery deer in AZ, I've only come across few if any other archery hunters in the field (ITF).
ITF as in 1/2 mile or more away from roads, including ATV-UTV trails.
But then I avoid the popular units, such as around Flagstaff #8-9...
I can speak to WA State via experience.
The 3 point muley restriction does work in seeing more bucks of 3+ years age. Observed more 2x3, 3x3 and the 4x4 mainframes in off season than in the 1980's b4 APR in place. The mule deer herd numbers have declined mostly due to several harsh winters...
Do a lot of trail sitting. Finding fresh sign, using optics. Spotting elk, observe, set up strategy to get in front of them. Choosing stands between feeding, bedding areas.
...wait and hope.
Personally I'd like to see 3x3 minimum for muley bucks for AZ.
WA State has 3 pt minimum on ONE side. However 2 pt muley bucks are still illegally shot....and left.
post for my experience in 2021 OTC CO. 1st time happened to me.
bull, cows working their way toward me. I bugle, bull bugles back. All elk headed down trail my way. I move toward the elk and get set up. Bull and I go back & forth calling, chuckling. Now raghorn 4x3 bull is at 80 yards and...
most of those residents are non-hunter, hippie/granola nerds....tech-wealthy too!
they don't hunt, vote on laws against hunting such as no bear baiting, no hounds for bear, cougar.
In Seattle/western WA area, these people are the biggest threat next to loss of habitat, sportsman access to...
if it would have been up to me, I'd just as soon walk off.
But what could my friend do when guide & wrangler did what they did. The whole scenario sort of ruined his hunt. Not to mention getting nervous being a bystander to the altercation and what might have occurred.
A guided hunt he spent...
Hunted Colorado OTC elk 62 for several years now. 2021 was the worst in numbers of archery hunters, camps etc.
in my 50+ years of hunting elk, never saw the hunter numbers observed this year. That includes the 1970's elk seasons in WA State!
even then, had 2 chances for a shot on respectable...
NM is bull elk NIRVANA!
Had the opportunity to hunt elk 2x, successful as DIY. But since new regulations AGAINST non-resident hunters put into place, haven't drawn a tag in 7+ years. Hurts is the last 3 years I'd had all the time needed for a hunt, being retired.
starting to think that buying a...
