Not exactly sure, it maxed out my 11# scale before I added the bipod and sling. Guessing 13# ish I was lugging around all weekend. A downside to muzzleloaders...but it sure shoots great, so worth the extra weight over my Encore.
This was the first year I tried OnX while on a buddies hunt. Initially it seemed like a neat app, but as I used it more, I was not a big fan. I prefer the free topo maps I have uploaded to my Garmin instead as they were easier to read. The big issue I have is "No Ownership Data" shown for...
Anyone have experience with the Burris Signature HD scopes? They look like a nice option compared to the VX5 if the optical quality is any good.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately as I shoot my VX5 more at longer ranges. I used to just hold left/right in inches, but the SIG 2400ABS doesn't output in inches. This is probably more important than I realized and will need to figure something out. Any ideas?
Thanks for sharing...
I just spent a few days in the mountains carrying my Sig 2400ABS and have a couple observations/feedback:
- Ranging, it's fast and works very well. Ranged an elk at 1840 yds one evening. That's much further than I really need, was just playing around. The alignment between the circle and the...
Burning the meat with dry ice would be my concern as well. Frozen water bottles or milk jugs would probably be the best method. I can tell you that I haven't had any issues with water logged meat. I usually put the hind quarters on the bottom, and that gets everything else up high and away...
I just went thru this myself. I have an older Leica 900 that's been great. All it does is range, nothing else. No angles, no ballistics, etc. My GF's Leupold is starting to fail, can't read the display well in sunlight, and wanted a backup for an upcoming Elk hunt she and I have.
You didn't...
I can't help you with respect to dry ice, but I'll share what I've done for the last three elk I've killed (1X mid-Sept and 2X Early-Oct). It might give you some ideas. I lay out a cheap blue tarp in the back of my van (rubber floor) and then stack the meat on it. The meat has already cooled...
Sadly, you're absolutely right wrt NM.
It does around here for sure. When people know they can get away with crimes (car theft is a good example in Albuquerque), more cars get stolen. The way NM is run (and has been for decades), how criminals are punished (or not), etc directly affects...
Ebay and Paypal are terrible about this. Had an issue this summer when I sold an ignition coil on ebay. It was clear it was for a single coil, yet the buyer complained because he didn't receive four like new (MSD coils) for $20. Ebay automatically sided with the buyer inspite of all the...
This is all pretty disheartening, but way cool of the antler buyer to do a little digging and find the owner! He was on top of his game with that.
Reading about Anchorage reminds me of Albuquerque and most of NM (all?). NEVER leave anything of value in your vehicle, especially while parked at...
I love having a capable 4WD van. I've spent weeks camping in it during hunts (especially January hunts when it's a mud-pit and a tent would be just about impossible to set up), tow my boat and beach launch, use it for mountain biking, etc. It's a great platform for that stuff. I built mine...
Sorry to hear that! Eye injuries can really knock you down!
Always seems like injuries are one step away from ending a hunt. A few years ago I was helping a buddy on an elk hunt, which ended after he got run over by his own truck (Cummin's on 37's) and got a heli flight out. This year he...
If you're planning on hunting with your ML, you might want to check headspace quickly. I found mine to be perfect without modification, however, I also found that my primary ejection didn't work. Not Arrowheads fault at all, rather it was a Remington issue. It took 2 weeks to get it fixed and...
As others have said, they'll probably hunker down for a day or two, but I wouldn't expect them to move out of the area. Fresh snow makes for good fresh sign. It may also drive other hunters out, never know. Good luck and be safe.
I did the exact same thing, drew on a buck a few years ago and it sounded like I was learning to play the violin. The felt on my QAD was worn and it just happened to make the noise at the wrong time. It's a major bummer for sure!
