My son slipped and fell on the rifle (ML) and scope last year. Result was a decent dent in the bell of a new Leupold VX5HD :-( Killed a nice bull with it two days later at 249 yds. We did not check it after the fall. It even had the vertical Warne rings that seem to have a reputation for not...
I agree with most everything else already mentioned (don't call when stalking, etc). Another method I've used is when I spot a herd, I try to anticipate where they are headed and get in front and set-up. Unless they are bedded, they move fairly quickly even when feeding. This is easier if...
I don't see anything listed on the Fury webpage at 300 gr for a 50 cal. Curious which bullet you've had good luck with. Have any velocity data for the different loads?
I'm thinking about trying the 285gr Fury plastic wad bullets (50 cal). Anyone try these yet? Was waiting the try the...
I left mine dirty last year between practice and the hunt. I noticed that the velocity varied a lot clean to dirty. With BH209, I can basically shoot it indefinitely without cleaning. With 777, after 3 shots and it's near impossible to load.
If you hit high, you may not get a blood trail at all. The fur soaks up the blood and the trail can be weak/non-existent. I hit a bull a touch high two years ago and their was zero blood trail. Luckily I hit him in a way that incapacitated his back half and he didn't go anywhere so I got...
Feed them potatoes and enjoy their company :-) I know of some hunters that did this and thought it was great. Or, buy a bear tag and enjoy the opportunity?
Same thing is happening here in NM and it's incredibly infuriating! The solution I can see IF land is sold this way is that any established roads existing at the time of sale must remain an open through-fare to the public.
This seems to happen all over NM, especially down South. Some of the...
Good to know this. I swapped to a Limbsaver Classic on my Sako 75 338WM recently and that rifle still beats me up. Maybe I should have gotten the Airtech.
Interesting to read thru this, we have similar issues in NM all over the place. Heck, ranchers will block what used to be public roads running thru a small piece of private to block off thousands of acres of public. Once they acquire their postage stamped sized land covering the road, access...
I agree with a lot of comments on here. I have a Teryx4 that takes the load off my van. I was tired of tearing up tires, not fitting in places, etc. After having mine for a little over 2 years, here are some of the pros and cons I've seen:
Pros:
- If it breaks, you still have a regular...
Rod covered the exit pupil calculation, which is super simple. If two different optics, both claiming to be 12x50, has different pupil diameters listed, then something isn't right.
I haven't looked as the 12x50 BX-5's, but I did look at the 10x42 version. They did NOT fit my face well, the...
Yet another vote for Nitto Ridge Grapplers. I've been running them on my van (8K# empty) and they are wearing well. Mine are 35 x 12.50R18 in F load rating. I noticed that they don't air down as well as the older Nitto's I had, the sidewalls are stiffer being F rated. I usually air down to...
