I haven’t stumbled across info concerning purchase/import of the Solo but when digging into whether the police might allow a visitor’s firearms license for a straight-pull AR I came across this Reddit post by someone that assembled one. The barrel has no gas port, the upper has no gas tube hole...
This is not quite an apples-to-apples comparison, as I have not weighed a non-adjustable R8 Professional stock. I’ll offer it up, regardless.
My Classic Sporter and *adjustable* Professional stocks weighed ~37.5 and ~46.4 ounces, respectively. That is sans aluminum receiver.
Not pictured...
It would definitely add up quickly. Have you been able to handle the Success? Used ones do pop up for sale; sometimes it's a good deal.
Is your interest in the wider barrel just so that you can thread 5/8x24? Semi-weight would be the answer, if so. Or, maybe have a carbon wrapped barrel made. J...
Keep in mind that while threading 5/8 on the standard profile barrel is possible, it's not advised. You won't be left with much shoulder for your suppressor. I had to go with 9/16. J Sip & Sons will thread a Blaser, as will Precision Barrel Work.
Seeing your gloves made me chuckle; I use the same.;)
Agreed, the weight of the R8 should be reduced... for less than a price tag of $8000+ for their R8 Carbon Success.
Nonetheless, my biggest complaint is not the weight or the cost, but rather the slow twist rates. I can barely stabilize the...
Have you thought of the Montbell Down Hugger? It "stretches" slightly, and perhaps, would be more comfortable in the shoulders. I think they are currently made in Vietnam. I've never tried one, as I fit in most long mummy bags. As you already mentioned, a quilt could be a decent solution.
The Big Agnes Q-Core SLX has worked great for me, as well. I often sleep on my side. The insulative quality of the Q-Core is decent. I have over a hundred nights on it. It had a couple slow leaks show up this past fall. Dunking it in the lake to find the leaks and then patching them with the...
If you put gates up I'm assuming that the only access to these "coveted spots" is via roads that run through your property. As it was explained to me years ago (laws may have changed), a property owner cannot block access to any public land IF the road running through their property is the only...
That's for the whole trip, if each leg is with the same carrier.
I agree with the above posts. Freeze it, and then fly all of the meat back as checked baggage.
As mentioned, the 20 is softer shooting. I am more accurate with it.
Glock 20, one mag, factory barrel, night sights, HSM Bear Load, and cheap FMJ for practice. I have a threaded KKM to try out, along with DT 230 gr.
The Kenai chest holster has worked well.
