The rx8u is at the 30.25" position right now which is the bottom of the longest mod. I was thinking about twisting cables to go back to the top of the 30" mod for more speed, but maybe that isn't such a great idea.
The last sentence is the most important. I used to be a scent control nazi. It took the fun out of hunting. Now I use zero scent control and hunt the wind. I still have mature deer that act like they can't smell me with a snout full of it. I have had deer nose a decoy for several minutes...
Thank you. They claim loose mod screws cause those. Torqued and locked with fingernail polish. I'll check often. I do agree with you that it is likely a design issue or a crappy screw issue. Other possibility would be holes drilled and tapped out of spec for fastener.
I think that came off wrong. I didn't mean it to. I have a rotary tumbler and stainless pins that I used twice. Once to realize it was a step back, and once to confirm. I didn't want someone else to go through the same thing I went through and learn the hard way.
I hope Hoyt keeps doing what they are doing. I want the most reliable system out there with no bells and whistles. I don't give a rip about marketing gobbledygook. I just want to be able to neglect my bow and still depend on it. I also want a well balanced, low lateral torsion bow that has...
Probably not. Just bought a last years rx8u in October. Last bow as a 2002 Bowtech Patriot. After drawing 80# on the rx8u, 76# on the patriot feels like 50#. They claim these bows are smooth drawing, but they are referring to the dump at the valley. On a draw board, my scale hits 80#...
Broadhead sharpness plays such a big role in pass throughs. I personally prefer as much speed and as big a hole as I can make. Currently shooting an rx8u with a 400 grain arrow at 80# and 30.5" dl. Arrow speed is 316 fps. Flatter trajectory is a huge deal hunting rutted up deer.
I think...
Yes, it will give you the cleanest brass. Then, to get it to shoot exceptionally well, you have to do a bunch of useless stuff to get consistent bullet release.
I hate loading. I avoid shooting to avoid loading and often train with rimfire to avoid it as well. I have had times in my life...

This is the way. Unless your brass is full of sand, there is no reason to clean it before sizing. Even a custom die will last as long as the chamber reamer sizing dirty brass, so the $$$ outlay isn't that big of a deal over time.
Wet tumbling is a pain in the ass and tumbling twice is a...
Shoot a prone 30 round group with both. The increase in group size from good ammo to bad is the necessary target size increase to make them comparable.
I agree with the above. If it doesn't frustrate the hell out of you, make the targets bigger to compensate. I have a hard time dealing with 3 moa mechanical precision. Anything over 1 moa is pretty frustrating, honestly, and a true 1/2 moa rifle makes you feel superhuman with what you can...
Most (not all) gun counter guys know nothing. The traditional way to headspace a barrel is to cut a shoulder on it and thread the smaller diameter before the shoulder. Obviously there is a spec. Then the reamer for the chamber is run to the proper depth. All the threads are hidden. There is...
I couldn't have said it better myself. I left archery as a 3d shooter (at a high level regionally, but could never put together a winning performance at the national level) at 18 years old. That was 21 years ago. I came back to archery because my kids got interested in bowhunting like dad (I...
It is simply extra threads showing past the barrel nut. It has nothing to do with function. It is an aesthetics thing. Savage guns are not aesthetically pleasing anyway. The 220 with remington accutips is a good suggestion if you are limited to slug gun only.
The safest way to change a havalon blade is with pliers, Leatherman or otherwise. I have used one for near 20 years now. Also use a fixed blade buck knife for anything that will require a lot of pressure.
I have no problem with either. You should be able to sharpen things. It is a basic...
The real answer is it depends. Above 60# and 28" dl I would not worry about any of it. Penetration is influenced mostly by energy and broadhead sharpness. A hair popping broadhead is a different animal than one that will barely shave hair. It doesn't matter if it is a 2" mech or a magnus...
This happened where I live when a portion of a nearby town was leveled by a tornado. My neighbor owns an excavation business and farms a lot of ground. He offered to use his equipment to help with the clean-up. When he showed up to help, he was told to leave and that he needed to put his...
With 45# at 26", I would look for a Bowtech convergence used or a Diamond alter. My daughter hunted last season with a Diamond Prism at 24" and 31#. She shot a doe at 24 yards with a 365 grain arrow using a magnus stinger killer bee with bleeders. The vanes stopped the arrow from penetrating...
