I'm hearing lots of good things about the Kowas here and elsewhere, but their greater weight is often also is mentioned. Is that significant enough to be a factor? I'm considering stepping up from 8x32s.
It seems to me that newer glass built with latest technology in coatings, prisms and such...
That really stinks. I am a newer guy here for sure and have been eyeing a few items in the classifieds but when I see a low post count or zero feedback I shy away. I contacted a member about an item for sale, asked for a custom picture and never heard back. If I had an item for sale I would...
I'm wondering how older preHD alpha glass might compare to the new $1k offerings by Zeiss, Maven, Kowa, etc.
Would less expensive binos built with new technology surpass the best optics of old? I didn't see where this specific question has been asked before and have wondered about this myself.
The silver fox is quite likely once in a lifetime. Lynx numbers rise and fall with the snowshoe hare population that peaks every 7 years. Lots of hares means lots of lynx. Yes, they sneak in and can be very tough to spot, not charging in like a canine.
I've used both a 17HMR and 22mag calling here in Alaska quite a bit through the years. I got a coyote with the 17, and a few foxes, but I've lost a lynx and a coyote also. I just quit taking it after that coyote got up and ran off. It is great for foxes under 100 yds with practically no pelt...
Last day of archery moose season and I was out hunting near town. I heard the usual atv traffic and such a half mile or more away, then heard the distinct sound of a drone in flight a ways off. Now, granted, it could have been a recreational user, but the last day of season......in this...
I use the magnet and like it. Although I don't do much raking and scraping with it. I carry a shortened wooden canoe paddle for that. I've found that when I rake with the paddle with the magnet slid down over the handle it has a really good sound that, to me, sounds identical to a bull raking...
Good points. Usage will be some open country hunts for Alaska big game. I don't wear glasses. I've felt a little underpowered with 8x looking across some big expanses, glassing river drainages and open country for moose and sheep. I'd like a little more light gathering at twilight, but don't...
I've been happily using Zeiss Conquest HD 8x32's for the last 8+ years and absolutely love them.
I'm getting the itch for a little more magnification and considering adding a 10x unit. I want to stay at the same optical quality as the Zeiss, so seems like a no brainer to get the same bins in...
