I'm hearing low harvest reports from most hunters I know, as in seeing few or no moose around the interior. I concur that the deep snow coupled with the freezing rainstorm we had in Dec of 21' put a hurt on the moose and then the wolves picked them off.
I like the reinforced guy out points that not only provide strength and stability, but prevent sagging and loss of available internal space.
I know a guide here in Alaska that is using the Solitude at present and I look forward to hearing his thoughts at season's end.
Preseason scouting allowed us to locate what we thought would be a dynamite area for this fall's moose hunt. There was dynamite, but the fuse was much longer than we anticipated! I would be hunting with my adult sons and looking forward to spending time together on this hunt.
We hunted a river...
That bull is definitely not 50", but would need a better angle to see if it has 3 brows, but probably not. I've toted a scapula around and found that if in prolonged wet weather they tend to get slimy and soften, and eventually start to crack and fall apart when raking on trees and brush. I...
I started using trekking poles a few years ago and will never look back. The carbon fiber trekking poles sold at Costco are the best deal going anywhere. Around $20 last time I saw them. I grabbed a couple sets. I've taken a tumble in the mountains and broken them, but other than that they...
Sad story here but a hunter and pilot lost their lives this week the day before sheep opener. Condolences to the families and friends of those involved, and thank you to the crews that attempted a recovery.

He asked specifically for input from people with firsthand experience with GPO optics.
I don't really care about the name. Big deal, they are capitalizing on the history of their management/ownership with well known German optics manufacturers, and their headquarters, design, QC are in Germany...
Am I correct to assume your buddies are hunting too? I would recommend you guys set a boundary of how far you will shoot a moose from camp. One guy gets all gung ho after a big bull and shoots it three miles from camp and then you all spend 2+ days packing it out, you might relegate him to to...
I have the GPO Passion HD 10x42. Last year after comparing the Maven B6 10x50, Kowa Genesis 10.5x44 and GPO Passion HD 10x42 I decided to keep the GPO's.
Optically, ergonomically they were absolutely the best choice for me.
You can read about my experience here...
I've not had any need for them. What little use you might have those Maven's might be all you need in 15x. I'd save that money for the inevitable purchase of more appropriate/necessary gear. Congratulations on the move!
Last year, after comparing the Maven B6 10x50, Kowa Genesis 10.5x44 and GPO Passion HD 10x42 I decided to keep the GPO's. I am impressed with them. I prefer the size, weight, focus wheel, and eye cups on the GPO's over the other models I tried. I could not discern but the faintest difference...
