    Chevy Motors

My son has that motor in a ZR2 Colorado. In that application, it’s pretty much a monster of a motor. Great power, reasonable economy. If I didn’t need to pull a cattle trailer, I would not hesitate to own that truck with that motor. John

Hadn’t considered that. I suppose it could be. There were two of them within 100 yards of each other. John

What’s the coolest thing you found in the back country

Went trout fishing on the Black River, south of Springerville, AZ last month. Beautiful country for sure. About 100 yards uphill from our campsite were these two rock fortifications constructed against rock outcroppings. They even had rifle ports in the outward facing walls and, at one time...

Vortex Furry AB data issue. Anyone else?

For the 212 ELD-x, Hornady shows the G7 to be .334 but the vortex library shows it as .359. In fact as I check several bullets for the purpose of this post, none of the BCs in the Vortex library have been very close to Hornady’s numbers. I have found Hornady’s numbers to work well for me. John

Vortex Furry AB data issue. Anyone else?

@Duh What bullet are you shooting? As an example, the vortex library shows the 88gr ELD as having a .261 G7. Hornady claims .274. When I edited that bullet’s G7 to .274, the data has been spot on with actual results on my range, which goes out to 900 yards. John

Vortex Furry AB data issue. Anyone else?

Check the G7 value in their library compared to manufacturers data or even what other shooters are coming up with. IIRC, those values were off too. Once I had good G7 values put in, both windage and elevation data have been pretty good. John

Vortex Furry AB data issue. Anyone else?

Mine was giving me inaccurate data too, when I was using the custom curves from the bullet library. Once I input accurate G7 BCs, the data has been spot on. John

Do you skip the expander mandrel?

I have a Mighty Armory sizing die in 6.5 Creedmoor. These dies are unique in that the expander is really a mandrel rather than the normal expander, so no separate neck expanding step required. Mine makes very straight cases. I also use bushing type dies. As far as whether to use the expander...

Spinning Rig for Small Stream Trout?

So, I’m seeing a lot of fairly long rods being recommended for small streams. Does this work ok when there’s a lot of side and overhead vegetation? John

Too Good a Bargain to Pass Up

After seeing my son’s, I had to snag one. Quality and value far exceed the asking price. All that are left are .308s, but everyone needs to have a .308 in the safe… John https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1026375876

Spinning Rig for Small Stream Trout?

What’s your recommendation for a small stream spinning setup for trout? Stream size could be anywhere from 15 to 60 feet across, fast water with occasional slower, deeper pools, open to tight overhead vegetation. Pretty much any small water wild trout. Rod, reel, line, leaders, bait? Quality...
