Smears are super cool. I never had one, might have chased one harder if they weren't shaped like you always have someone else to spot shots for you.
I have some nostalgia/appreciation for the past, but I never seem to vote that way with my wallet.
The new display in the 8k monocular and 10k binos is a different style, instead of having fixed elements it’s got an entire matrix of pixels. Because there is a full screen worth of pixels, they built in functionality to move the reticle on the display to match where the laser ACTUALLY is.
My XTR-III 3-18 has about the thinnest reticle of any I've seen, I find it to be too thin even for match use by my personal preferences, and mine isn't illuminated. It's also 5+ oz heavier.
I haven't owned or fully wrung out a Tenmile, but I've played with them a bit and would choose one for...
I’ve taken neck shots on two animals that didn’t result in death given 5+ minutes. I’m confident you’d approve of the placement of both times. I’ve also taken three that lead to instant death. My experience is such that it’s a last choice for me at this point, but I will take it under certain...
I could probably go 16" GT and keep the velocity plus some I bet. I even have a couple pieces of GT brass I could test feeding with if I hadn't run them through my Dasher sizing die! Hate to start over with dies and brass at least for this one, I'll probably live with the mag situation for a...
22 BR Tikka from yesterday.
@wind gypsy @N2TRKYS
I built a 22 BR with more or less a Rokslide special blueprint. 20" barrel (for once the can comes in, though I love the current length & handling). Very easy to shoot and spot shots, 88 ELD's at +/- 2800 stay above 1800 fps past 700 yds in...
Check out the Maven. Fantastic laser AND a good price point, does just what you’re looking for.
There’s Sig products I like, but I’m 2/2 on disappointment on their monocular rangefinders, and I know it’s not isolated to me.
A healthy float for a straight 1.25” uncontoured barrel ought to do it, one and done. :ROFLMAO:
If being serious, I’d do ONE model with a healthy float for a sendero contour and call it to reduce sku’s. I can see how some would want it to match the barrel just so, but you only match one...
Sounds about perfect. It might take a couple years, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it changes the market.
I’ll buy some for me, but I should probably buy a couple extras for people that shoot mine, who don’t want to wait for their own.
Looking good. Hard to imagine I won’t get a couple, do hope I love the grip. For my personal use, I think a dupe of the bravo grip slid .25” towards the trigger would be 👌
For sure, you still have the option of premium brass (if you can find it). I can't buy factory Hornady 22 BR with 88's for like $1.25 a round if I wish, which I feel is a nice perk of the ARC for me, and a total game changer for other users.
I like it. Fits in gas guns well, there will be good factory available, and you get great performance out of something that should be very well behaved. Having everything standardized and on the shelf makes it the obvious choice (to me) vs the many similar variations and wildcats, at least for...
@WestTN2288
Here's some numbers with the Hornady and Leverevolution. Better than I expected, but a caveat: there was a throw right at the beginning that was .2 gr lower than anything else. When it became apparent it was an outlier (and probably an artifact of pouring the powder and adjusting...
Leverevolution should give you noticeably better velocities with a 223 & heavies than any of the extruded options. I have a jug and need to do a little temp stability test of my own. Some people have a lot of issue with it, some don't. CFE223 should be similar.
H4895 is pretty similar to XBR...
The two potential issues that'd be a factor for me are:
- Removing carbon from the inside of the case mouths that helps prevent cold welding and can promote smoother seating overall (the carbon acts as a lubricant and a barrier).
- Rounding over/peening case mouths.
I have known enough...
There's a bunch of factors for spotting in general, and especially spotting up close:
The mechanical:
Total recoil impulse (rifle weight is a factor, but then chambering,load, and muzzle device round out the equation)
Stock geometry
Field of view (and to a lesser extent scope eyebox...
In my experience shiny brass is to make you happy about how it looks, it doesn't really help anything else. Like makeup. Unless there's actually mud on my brass, I don't tumble it until after sizing, and then its 10-20 minutes to get the lanolin lube off.
If I was still trying to shine my...
