Thanks for a great thread mtwarden. Always neat to learn a little more details about the tech we use. I always thought it was just less satellites in orbit.
I used a SPOT2 for a few years, and now a Garmin Mini2 for the last few. The SPOT ‘mostly’ worked, but was slow to send. The Garmin has...
I’m still not seeing a LH T3x option for the HNT26 on MDT’s site. I’ll be putting together a NRL build this winter, and would prefer to use the Tikka action, with an ARCA fire end HNT26.
I could be mistaken, but isn’t Steve shooting a Tikka in a HNT26 in this video? Perhaps he had it modified...
I used a few MR packs back when the whole line was US made. Then a SO Evo/Revo extensively for 10 years. The last 2 years I’ve been hunting with the SG X-Curve with 5900 Sky or 2800 Approach. I’d pick the SG X-Curve every time.
The SG frame with the 2800 is a fantastic day to 2-3 day pack...
I’ve been happy with mine. Light and stiff. Use it with the LP head. For binos and my 85mm spotter. I think the head would be a better fit with a 65mm or smaller spotter. But I also really like its function for the weight.
Tricer is not RRS quality level, but decent and way less expensive.
Yeah. Of course the outfitters see us as a problem. LOL.
Alberta’s wildlife management is not good. Of many species, not just sheep. The sheep management is so poor, it’s almost hard to know where to start. Habitat management would be my first pick, but there are other easy to address items...
Weighs whatever my pack weighs the day of. Plus the pound or so for carbon trekking poles.
For certain hunts I’ll pack a 33 oz tripod that’ll work as a rest, in a pinch. But really only bring it for sheep or elk, and it’s mostly for glassing.
I really like the function of my Peleton240 Hoodie. It’s a great mid-layer. But it snags and piles really easily. Disappointing for the price. It’s not a cheap fleece.
I’ll try the Strong Fleece next time KUIU has a sale.
Pretty sure those were rebranded Northstars? I’ve been super happy with the Northstar AGM in my Tundra. Up here the -35C and lower cold kills batteries. This one has lasted into year 5.
Years ago I bought one of the first popular heat exchanger pots (Olicamp XT, or something like that?) to test against my much loved & used MSR Ti Kettle. I wanted the MSR to be competitive, and it starts with a lower base weight. But the heat exchanger pot was ~40% faster. Which adds to to a lot...
Same here. Used the KUIU Pro for years. And have been using the SG Sentinel so far this season. I like them both- positives and negatives for each- but probably prefer the SG overall. It rides really well, and is snugger on my binos. The various attachments- I use the ballistic pouch and...
Good luck Mike! Enjoy the time and stay safe.
Just got back from 8 days in the sheep mountains. It was awesome. Have a few more long weekend sheep trips planned. Can’t wait…
