    Sounds interesting guys,I've taken a bear with a lever gun in 44 mag with factory hornady 240 xtp loads,over bait appropriate 30 yard shot and the bear went 20 yards don't see why a 357 mag with a big flat nose bullet out of a rifle wouldn't do the trick.

    One of the old guys at work bought a new Tacoma 4banger with a auto trans.,a base model truck 4x4 that I think he claimed cost 26 or 27 grand brand new, and is getting 27 mpg on his daily commute to work which is approximately 100 miles a day, claims its a gutless turd but can't complain about...

    I believe it's a 139grain bullet at 2600 think they use a 24 inch barrel for test...since the op is in the uk he's stated he's running a rifle length barrel..so probably 21 to 23 inches

    Contender has a threshold on which cartridges can be used 7mm08 is a no go. 7-30 waters in Federal ammo carries over 2000 lbs of energy.

    Another company to look into is Lehigh defense/ssk firearms...they have literally everything parts wise for your first generation contender....and they make barrels as well...and are really reasonably priced.
