I run a wide pad, and an extra wide quilt. I am a pretty big guy (6'4" 240lb) and I can tuck the sides of the quilt under me between myself and the pad.
I am on the opposite end of the size spectrum, 6'4" about 240 lbs. I have a park series down bag (10 degree model) and had no issues with it. I have since moved to a quilt and prefer that over the bag. I also tend to sleep in base layers and socks, but nothing major and had the bag down in...
I'll take a stab...
I would quickly pick a spot that I can get to quickly and quietly that is 30-50 yards closer to where the bull is. Then find a branch and do 15-20 seconds of raking. Then move up to the spot and sit tight.
I use an AGC bino case that also holds my range finder, extra calls, phone, wind puffer, etc. I only take it off to add or remove layers during the day. I am on the different part of the spectrum in that I use my binos often when archery hunting elk.
Just realize that the visitor centers do not allow firearms inside. It is posted on their doors.
Not trying to start a 2nd amendment conversation here, just stating.
Oh, I typically carry in both Teton and Yellowstone NP. Make sure your have reciprocity with Wyoming.
Agree with the above, physical & mental. After a couple of days of miles with no elk, it is easy to start getting discouraged. Start thinking of home, etc.
That said, if you are sleeping close enough to where you think there should be elk (1-2 miles) you should be hearing them at night at...
Shot in the dark here but I’m looking for an older set of Duplex shoulder straps. One of my 5 year old straps is coming apart. Mine are foliage but I am not concerned with color. Let me know what you may have kicking around.
As for leak detector. I find saliva to work pretty well. The surface tension in your saliva is lower than water (like soapy water) which allows you to make spit bubbles.

For the treadmill, 3.0 @ 15 is ok, but it is not working you hard enough to have the gains you want out hear. Interval the speed to increase your heart rate. You need to get into the cardio range. I am guessing it is more your lungs than your legs that are failing at altitude. You can back...
ATVs in Idaho are not just a Hunter issue. Meaning that even though a trail is closed to a hunter during the season, it is still open for recreational ATVing. So, some of the people you see / off the roads, on the trails, may be just people out riding. Makes it really difficult for Fish &...
As a few above have said, I think the issue is your sleep pad. Get something with a higher R value or put a foam pad (like a Z rest) under your inflatable. Another trick would be a space blanket between your Tyvek and your pad.
One thing on the 50". Here in Idaho, if you are in a restricted MV area, you can only travel on the full roads when hunting, so that negates the 50" need. I have both a full size Polaris Ranger and a Can Am wheeler. Both have been trouble free. The Polaris gets more use during hunting season.
Idaho in October can be pretty iffy. If you are within a few hours hike back to the truck, I would not worry about it, your 3 season will likely be fine. If you get a foot of snow dumped on you, and it crushes your tent, hike back to the truck. Also, not all 3 season tents are built the same...
