Time for some field testing
I've been using MTN OPS "Ignite" with my morning workouts, and find myself craving it during the afternoons that I'm more active. Anxious to put this stuff to use this spring chasing brown bears. Will update findings/results upon return.
New base camp staple
I about threw this stuff away after the first time drinking it because of the flavor, but after a days working out in the cold I now find myself craving it. I don't think I'll pack it into fly camps with me, but definitely leave it at airstrip base camps.
Howdy Les, I'm from NW Sconnie, Turtle Lake. I see you're a Cheddarhead as well!
Thanks for the insight. The recovery just doesn't come as quick as it used to. I'll give it a shot.
Right now the drink of choice around the Molls' house is maple water. My daughters and I love it! They call it...
I'm 40 years old. With 20 years, and counting, of guiding in Alaska, exercising 5 days a week and watching what I eat and drink has become necessary. I've also come to accept that I need to do anything else I can to keep my body strong and functioning. I used to laugh at the guys (especially...
I know alot of guys like stiffer boots. I would say the Crispi Hunter/Guide are similar boots to the Hanwag Trapper Top, but the Crispi's are a little stiffer.
I once tried Koflach plastic boots. They were great on sidehills, but beat my feet to blistered pulps everywhere else. I typically...
After 86 days in the Alaskan bush I gotta say I'm very impressed with Crispi boots. I preferred the "Hunter GTX" over the "Guide GTX"(mainly because of the extra 2" of height), but I have to say I won't be looking for new boots next season. I used them on 1 caribou hunt in the boggy tundra, 2...
After 20+ years of packing heavy loads while being too stupid to use proper arch support, my arches have collapsed somewhat, spreading my metatarsal, so I tried a EE boot. They have as wide of toe box as I've every tried.
In the past 20 years of guiding in Alaska, and hunting here and there for myself, there is no doubt in my mind that I've worn-out better than $10,000 worth of hunting boots. I've tried Hanwag, Meindl, Kennetrek, Danner, Scarpa, Lowa, and a few other brands I'm embarrassed to even mention! In...
TimberDoodle, The buffalo hunt was amazing.
You shouldn't have difficulty find a dry place to camp in the Brooks. I'd make sure you have a system to seal your tent at ground level as the bugs can be brutal in that country.
As far as footwear, It really all depends where you get dropped and...
Please excuse my absence, but I'm sure you all will agree a totally wild cape buffalo safari in Africa is justifiable excuse-- by the it was was an unbelievalbe experience.
Anything I can help with on caribou, please don't hesitate to ask. I'm already itching to get my first taste of early...
Caribou hunting on Haul Road has been very tough in recent years. Tundra is VERY slow growing. In my opinion it seems the caribou have found better feed in the outlying areas. You really need to fly out by aircraft to have the best chance of success.
Oops,,, I didn't reply with quotes on my last reply... I'm not very tech savvy.
That's awesome you're realizing your dream! Life is indeed too short. There is a reason why most guys who quit making excuses and just go to Alaska go back again, and again, and again... I've found if you want to...
I've used them for sheep hunting, but unless you're hunting deep in mountains winds in Alaska can be brutal. I'm not an expert on floorless tents, but I would make sure you know of someone who has hunted in Alaska with one before you depend on it with your life.
These last few posts bring one particularly crusty old outfitter to mind: On his booth display at hunting expos he would post a big sign on top that read, "LIFE'S SHORT. WRITE THE CHECK!" :)
One can take my posting this with a grain of salt, because I've guided for 20 years now and haven't...
