If you were starting from scratch, which daypack setup would you buy?

I use a Stone Glacier Kiowa and a SG Frame. The Kiowa is just about perfect for work travel, does well as a carry on. And it’s a great as a day pack. When I need to plus up I just throw it on the SG frame.

    Molle Marsupial Bino Pouch

Am I crazy, or would a molle version of the Marsupial Gear bino pouch be a very useful thing to have? If you’d like one chime in!

    molle compatible bino pouch

Shameless bump, let’s all band together and start pestering Marsupial to make a molle compatible version of their bino pouch.

    The mechanics of quilt layering

Second follow up, have used my new sleep system a few times with night temps in the 40’s. The pad I got is an Exped Ultra 7. The Zenbivy 25 has been quite a bit too hot, but I am wondering if part of the reason is the pad having way too high an R value for the conditions. Wearing a base layer to...

American made clothing — Roundhouse denim

Roundhouse overalls have been a staple in my community (NE Tx) for at least several decades. Excellent product, certainly doesn’t give anything up to more common workwear like Carhartt. I think they just don’t do a good job marketing.

    The mechanics of quilt layering

To follow up on this, I ended up ordering a Zenbivy core bed 25deg down bed. And an Arrowhead Equipment 40deg Apex blanket (no foot box, just a regular blanket.) The Apex blanket will stay in the pack and be used a lot for static deer hunting. If the weather here in Tx warrants a little extra...

    Rifle Sling Recommendation

Since we’re talking about without a pack… Patrol style, Rifles Only Carbine Sling. The bungee section really soaks up some of the weight. It is most comfortable if I get some stand-off from my chest with something like a HPG Kit Bag, which I’m usually wearing anyways. Patrol style is the way...

    D.O.P.E. Advice

I wouldn't say it's pointless, we all need to practice if we want to be proficient. As long as the practice ammo is consistent, it doesn't really matter what the drops are. Training value is the same. Just another reason to have two completely independent profiles built out in the calculator.

Has Anyone Tried Marsupial Gears New “Suntech Hoody”?

I’ll second this request. I haven’t yet located something better than Patagonia, and I don’t fancy supporting them if I don’t have to.

    <$1k 60mm Spotter for Digiscoping

It’s certainly not an impossible task to take a bigger optic like an 85mm along, but it’s generally just not worth the effort because this capability is a “nice to have”; doesn’t make or break the hunt. I’m narrowing down on 60-65mm range just based on the assumption it’s going to meet my budget.

    <$1k 60mm Spotter for Digiscoping

I agree, that new mini Vortex probably needs to be added to the list. But man, I have always viewed Vortex products as a warranty with a complimentary optic. Wish I could see one in person.

    <$1k 60mm Spotter for Digiscoping

I have a very narrow use case for using a spotter. Tripod mounted in a fixed position, deer hunting. I use digiscoping for taking pictures and videos of culls, target bucks outside of shooting range, etc to send to other lease members. I’ve tried it with quality 15x56…. Decent but not enough...

Rifle Tripod and Head - Leofoto ?

Light, stable, cheap… pick 2. I’ve never regretted my investment in Really Right Stuff tripods and heads. Also, as far as rifle shooting, don’t look past using a bag instead of clamping the rifle into the head. In the past, when I tested out all the Chinese made stuff, I found that a...

    The mechanics of quilt layering

I feel like I am going to use the light synthetic quilt quite a bit for sitting in the deer stand.

    The mechanics of quilt layering

Thanks for linking, I have read that article. Really what I’m thinking about is what would work well with a 40f Apex Revelation top quilt. For instance, I thought about something like a BigAgnes Anvil Horn. The pad sleeve would be nice. Since it’s got a big foot box, I’m assuming the top quilt...

    D.O.P.E. Advice

My opinion on how this could be done the right way next time. Seems to me like you are changing way too many variables midstream to expect consistent results. 1. Set up profile (accurately) for your rifle and Nosler Accubond ammo in ballistic calculator. Need tp make sure you're selecting...

Chronograph. Go cheap or invest heavy?

MagnetoSpeed is the bare minimum. It will shift poi, but it won't change precision of given rifle or load. It's nice if you're trying to assess loads. If you just need a MV to determine your dope you almost don't even need a chrono at all these days. I can't even remember the last time I...

good input. I didn't know if folks are just laying the synthetic layer over like you mentioned, or also using the footbox.

    The mechanics of quilt layering

Hello Rokslide, for my first post I'd like to ask for some general guidance on layering for sleep systems. I like the idea of down layered under synthetic. I am in NE Texas so there's a lot of 50-60f nights. However, there are certainly times when it gets down into the 20's during deer...
