I’m currently using a Stone Glacier Kiowa in a number of different roles… work/personal travel, day hunting, and shorter 2-night backpacking trips with <25lb load outs. It works very well for day hunting and traveling, and does a pretty decent job on backpacking trips.
I have been...
Stratospire 2. It has been set up in the back yard a few times, seam sealed, and been on one mild weather backpacking trip. No defects, might as well be new. Mesh inner. This is the new sil poly version, just a few months old.
I got this for recreational backpacking and I just don’t ever...
Can’t help you on the Kuiu but I’ve got the Kiowa and use it frequently for work travel. It’s a great pack, excellent for carry on airplane travel. All the compression straps are helpful and even with 5 days worth of stuff I don’t have any issues getting it in an overhead bin. Has more than...
Red and black Zenbivy Core bed, size Large, quilt is down. Sheet for 25” mat. I have used this system a few times and absolutely loved it. However, it made me realize I am a hot sleeper and can get away with a much higher temp rating.
It is less than a year old and has been stored loosely as...
Well, I do believe in practicing with what you’ll use in the field…. So I’d suggest getting the bag with light weight fill first and going from there. The AG Game Changer is the original, but I’m a Texan so I have to include Wiebad. either is a great choice.
Both do great as a rear bag for...
Armageddon Gear Waxed Canvas Game Changer with Git Lite fill
Or
Wiebad Waxed Canvas Mini Fortune Cookie with lightweight fill.
Not much need for anything other than one of these. If I had two I’d have the same bag in a heavy sand fill for a tad more stability at the square range. But, the...
This is exactly what I’m trying to do as well… put my favorite pouch on the front of my favorite chest rig, a HPG kit bag.
I have a hard time hanging all the stuff I want to carry on a dedicated bino harness. And it’s a way better method for carrying a pistol concealed.
Was searching for 6 Creed shorty info and came across this thread, thought I’d share my results. Factory Howa barreled action, with Hornady 108 ELD-M box ammo (small sample size of 5 shots)
24” - 2980 fps
16” w/ Ultra 5 - 2630 fps
Dropped a lot more velocity than I expected, but it’s still...
Don't forget the Sig option. However, my experience with their LRF Bino's has been excellent electronics and rangefinder performance, disappointing viewing experience. Leica is NEVER a bad choice for this type of equipment. You'll keep it and use it for a very long time.
So how would this work as a standalone head for both glassing and a little bit of shooting? I’ve had an Anvil 30 in the past and currently using a BH-30 ball head. The BH-30 is sufficient for shooting and a little bit better for glassing than the Anvil was.
Is this Scout head even less stable...
No I haven’t tried it, really prefer having it in the center up against the frame. However, I am not a western hunter so my method may not be best for everyone. I am primarily walking in and doing day hunting from a static position.
I’ve got RRS 14 series legs and one of their ballheads. Previously owned 34 series legs and an Anvil 30. At the end of the day I spend more time glassing than shooting, and I rarely do any of it standing up. So I bumped down from 34 to 14 because it’s so much shorter and easier to pack/carry...
I carry mine in the meat shelf on the SG frame. The tripod sits on top of the folded buttpad and rides nice and snug parallel with the rifle rail/barrel. I am not moving and glassing as much as some of you though.
